I was reading the Sitcoms topic, and it reminded me, is it just me or are The Simpsons starting to go downhill this season? The episodes aren't that funny and the humor has kinda changed... or maybe my sense of humor is going down the drain??
I've noticed this too, that over the past few years, ever since 1996 to be exact, the Simpsons have been getting stupider, whackier, and just plain ridiculous. They've managed to completely change the characters into opposites of what they used to be, and the dumb antics they carry on with has lost all appeal.
I long for the pre '97 days when the Simpsons were actually funny and their characters actually balanced each other.
Bart was a lot funnier than Homer, plain and simple.
You can't be serious. Maybe funnier for a kid. Bart's "bad kid" antics were getting real old. One kid and his skateboard can only get into so much trouble.
It's still the best show on TV, but the past three seasons haven't been too good. The last really good season was season 10 with classics like Edison, Max Power, the second Canyonero episode, Japan, etc. The seson after that was ok, but the last two have been pretty poor.

Bart's "antics" often had some quite sophisticated satirical elements. Homer, by contrast, is pretty much limited to crude stupid humor.
"Let me think about it" = the coward's way of saying "no"
As a loyal fan, I too think that the last 2 seasons have been less than spectacular. I think that they got new writers and that may be the problem.
The biggest problem I've noticed is that the show starts at 8pm, and ends at 830pm. The story builds until like 820pm and that only leaves them 10 minutes to have the actual problem, and resolve it. They rush it way too much now. Before, it used to be where the story was a nice curve, but not anymore.
I'm pretty sure that the show got picked up for at least 2 more years... so let's hope they survive!
My posts/replies are strictly my opinion and not that of any company, organization, or Southwest Airlines.
I think their best years were with Conan O'brian as writier/producer. But now, it's just slipping away into stupidity. I think it's probably better that they quit now while covered in what's left of their glory than continue falling flat on their faces.
The Simpsons have indeed gotten dumber and so has the writing.
The show used to have a funnier humour to it, but now it's degraded to the point where "Malcolm and the Middle" has made it to number two on my list of the most sophisticated shows of the Sunday comedy lineup (number one being "King of the Hill," of course).
It's almost as if the writers have lost their edge and imagination. They did, for crying out loud, resort to Popeye the Sailor Man lampooning!
