Moroccan Beauty ( Take A Look )

Tue Mar 19, 2002 9:11 am

a friend of mine sent me some picture of this beauty...

from Yahoo.com

...But unlike in the famous movie, this love affair looks set to have a happy ending. We found this bright yellow Moroccan monster tucked away in a corner at the Geneva Motor Show, where it was making its world debut. Called the Fulgura - which means lightning in Latin - the awesome-looking machine is the latest project from Casablanca-based company Laraki, the African nation's only car maker. The outrageous two-seater is the work of a yacht designer, 29-year-old Abdeslam Laraki. But the Fulgura, which features a stylish black interior with aluminium trim, is no pipe dream, as a spokesman confirmed to Auto Express that a production version will be ready early next year. While the prototype on display was powered by a Lamborghini Diablo (see photo) engine, the road-going version is set to have an even more powerful American-sourced 6.0-litre V12, which will deliver more than 700bhp.

Looks like a Diablo from the rear. An XJ220 from the side. And an FI from the front.

Im surprised ....didnt know Morocco actually had a company trying to make supercars...The fulgara does look one serious machine. It does resemble the diablo from the back and the front lights seem to be inspired by the 360 Modena.

While it's stunning, I'm not impressed. It looks way too 'busy'.

Whoa, that is something! Of course, the chances that it'll be certified for sale in the United States are pretty slim.

Too many scoops, vents, bulges, etc. It suffers from what I call the 'TransAm' Syndrome

"They thought it was Italian, since Italian designers are known for the beauty of their creations, but were all surprised when they learnt it was Moroccan" the young Moroccan designer told MAP.

...Laraki says he will exhibit an improved version of Fulgura in the 2003 edition of the fair, with a chassis entirely conceived in Morocco according to the state of the art technology. Chassis and coachwork will be made up of carbon fibers, he disclosed. Laraki is preparing for the Geneva 2003 another car prototype, less sophisticated than Fulgura, but still a luxury car. He declined to disclose any further details. "It will be a surprise for Geneva 2003" he says with a smile.

can't wait to see the thing hit the road.
