Need Help With OE In Win 2k

Fri Mar 29, 2002 11:19 am

Ok.. Here's the situation.. I exported my messages from Outlook Express in WIn 98 2nd edition, they came out as .dbx files.. I had to wipe the hd, and ended up installing Win 2k.. I have been trying to incorporate them into my OE in 2k, but it will not even try to access the .dbx files (now on CD as backups) to install them.. I have some important and special messages that I would like to be able to read again, and would apprecitae any help I could get... Please reply here, or email me and if necessary, I will give out my phone #..

Thanks in advance..

Go in under C:Documents and Settings-the username they are for and copy all the files into:
Local Settings-Application Data-Identities-{blablablanumbers}-Microsoft-Outlook Express

(Local settings is a hidden folder so you have to change the settings to show hidden folders)

It worked for me.

You shouldn't have to import them, the folders should be there when you start outlook express up.

Are you sure you got all of the files?

Is it only one file?

You should have one file for each folder (inbox.dbx, outbox.dbx, drafts.dbx, deleted items.dbx etc.)

Yeah.. I have all backed up, but only want the messages out of the one.. I'd hate to have to write over the stuff I currently have.. Is there a way? I tried creating a whole new ID, and it just locked up when I went to it...

Don't think so, I think one of the other files contain info about all the folders if you see what I mean.

A sollution would be to drag and drop all the mails you currently have into a folder on your desktop or whatever (every mail is saved as a separate file) and then copy the backed up folders. That will overwrite what you have left in OE. Then you just recreate the overwritten folders and move the mails back from the file on the desktop.

Hope you see what I mean!
