You are describing a time known as "the great depression", do you really believe that a country should have imported refugees when it couldn't even afford to feed itself?
During WW2, a time when we (according to some) should have been bringing these refugees in with open arms, my grandmother was BURYING my uncle in an unmarked mass grave in Melbourne Victoria because there was NO PENICILLIN to treat his flu, which turned into Pneumonia and killed him. He was 18 months old and died of a totally curable condition even in those days.
She had no money to bury him, no money to feed her family properly and her husband was off fighting a war.
Do you really think it was a racial reason that we were against the importation of refugees at the time?
Why do people turn economic decisions into racial slurs?
Mind you, don't those guys hold a grudge or WHAT?
Using something that apparently happened over 50 years ago to tarnish a whole country in perpetuity!
