Baseball Autographs

Mon Apr 15, 2002 10:27 am

Baseball is my life. I love going out to the ballpark (Astros Field) and getting autographs. I will post my list tomorrow. It is so long I don't have time right now. But all of my baseball memorabelia could sell around 30K+. So, do you have any baseball autographs?

LOL I know, I just thought that it would get more attention as its own topic instead of a part of one.

Ten-four, TCAS!

I was kinda skeptical of your post in my "famous people" thread.......You said you've met many big-leaguers since 1980! (But, according to your profile, you weren't born until at least 1982.)

Sorry if I offended you with the Elvis remark!  Smile

You simply MUST be (I'm guessing) related to an executive in the Texas Rangers' organization. Am I correct?

This would be a way you could be so close to all those players, plus the Bush's (Sr. & Jr.).

You're in Houston, eh??

Are you an Astros' executive's son ??

Aren't the Bush's connected (ownership-wise) with the Rangers?

Lax, do you live in Cincinatti? My grandmother does and she has willed me her autographs from 1920-1985. She has everyone from Johnny Vandemeer to Pete Rose and Johnny Bench.

TCAS......

No, I'm not in Cincy. I'm fairly close, in Indiana.

Cool about all the old autographs! Sounds nice!

Pete Rose was always the hardest to obtain. I never did get Pete's! (BTW.....Today (Apr. 14) is Pete's 61st birthday.)

Rose would always emerge from a different exit than the other players below Riverfront Stadium, thus avoiding the autograph seekers.

I'll give you my list shortly. They're in several old '70s Reds' scorebooks I've collected. You could buy a scorebook (not JUST a card) for a mere 35 cents in 1971! Probably $5.00 now!

Yeah, I have a program from one of the Reds' World Series in the 1970s and it says 60 cents on the front whereas programs sell for $10 today.

When I was a kid in 1981, I waited outside County Stadium in Milwaukee after a game by the players' exit. I got numerous autographs on my empty popcorn box--Robin Yount, Cecil Cooper, Ted Simmons, Don Money and Jimmy Gantner. I recognized Paul Molitor trying to sneak out. He looked pretty scraggly and was wearing sunglasses.

I recognized him first, and called out to him. As soon as I did that...everyone came running. He took time to sign everyone's box--everyone but mine. When he got to my box, he told me to piss off...he wasn't going to sign my popcorn box because I was the reason he had to waste time signing boxes. What a dickhead.
