Probably risking my forum membership here, but what the heck!
On the forum pages, it indicates the purpose of the forums on A.net. Included for this forum is the following line;
This is also the place for suggestions, comments and constructive criticism related to any part of Airliners.net.
Sadly, this appears to be somewhat untrue. Yesterday, someone posted a comment regarding the banner adverts on the site. I considered his post "fair and constructive" critisicm. I replyed with my own comment, wondering how long it would be before the post was locked or deleted. I will also admit that I commented on the increase of pop-under ads coinciding with the availibility of paid membership (risky I know!). As it happened, it was a little longer than the 30 minutes I predicted before the thread was locked! It does appear that the few times ANY post that says ANYTHING negative about this site comes up, particularly in relation to the insiduous pop-under ads (which are always the same as the banner ad at that moment - does someone think we can't read the first time?), that thread instantly has a very short life expectancy.
My point. I would suggest that the above comment is removed from the description of the purpose of this forum as it is pretty clear of Johan's opinions of such posts. My feedback (constructive criticism?) would be, if you can't handle certain things, don't provide the facility. I would suggest providing an alternative place to direct such comments, but as they would be ignored anyway it would be a waste of time. It appears that a more realistic ruling would be "constructive criticism related to any part of Airliners.net can be stuffed up your own backside"
Before anyone does crash in and say it, criticism is rare I know as A.net is overall an excellent site and I know it's free and revenue has to be made somewhere etc. etc. I also have mellowed my own posting somewhat to avoid so-called "flamebaiting," though will naturally comment on anything I agree/disagree with. (Hell, even KROC agreed with one of my posts yesterday - I had to go out and get some fresh air after that!
I just feel that there is a certain "attitude" towards anyone who has offered what is invited above. If I recall correctly, even those who have complained of problems pop-under ads crashing older computers, as used to happen to me, get treated with a certain amount of contempt.
What are others thoughts, if you can get them in before the post is locked - which I'm sure will happen soon.
