O.K. I Have A $100 And Going To Vegas

Thu Apr 18, 2002 12:23 am

What shall I do? I am headed to Vegas for a tradeshow that will last a week. I know $100 is a bit anemic but with all the student loans mounting that is pretty much all I can muster for the time being. I am hoping that some of you guys might know a thing or two about gambling and may be able to give me a tip or two on how to turn that $100 into something more than $0 when I finally leave, and the idea of NOT gambling has crossed my mind, though quickly done away with.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from ya'll....

You have $100 for gambling or $100 to spend total? At least save some for food!

Yea, if all you have is $100 dollars for everything, don't waste it on gambling, as you are almost guaranteed to lose it. Save it for food and other stuff that you will need during the week. It aint much in the city of glamour.

Since I will be attending the tradeshow everything will be paid for by my company, except for my gambling venture. So I figured take an extra $100 and see what happens. KROC and I are on the same page, I figured Blackjack was the way to go, always double down on 11 and stay at 17, are there any other tricks of the trade that might be good to know? How about Craps? anyone got an idea on that one?

And thank you Mr. Shakey for reminding me that the hotel/casinos will not be treating me with the "Whale" treatment. Thanks for the comments guys....

I'll have to keep you informed just how good/bad it turns out.

if you want real advice...

get your nuts out of momma's purse, get to the bank and get AT LEAST $500. $100 won't get you anywhere unless you're gambling for "fun" in which case i'm sure there's a fisher price "li'l gambler" or something to keep you busy.

try to get an empty table. the dealers are so underpaid, they want you to win. usually if you're cool, they'll explain how to play the games and strategy, etc. make sure you tip them.

Mcringring,
That is funny since I'll be there for the McDonald's Worldwide Tradeshow. As for the allowance....I guess I could forego the student loans and the truck payment, and if My dog doesn't eat for a bit, and I am sure the credit card companies would be cool.....nah, maybe I should just stick with my original $100 and just turn it into $500. Optimism might just do it for me.

LiL Gambler, that made me laugh out loud, good one.

Maybe if you have so much to worry about, you shouldn't have bought a truck or gotten a dog.

Try to gamble during non peak hours when they lower the minimum on tables. I am usually able to make $20 last about 6 hours at the roulette table ($5 minimum) by playing odd/even and/or red/black. Build a little bank that way (you have 17/38 odds) and then expand a little. If you've never been to a casino, roulette is a very easy table game for you if you're a little nervous about sitting at a table as opposed to slot machines.

Don't gamble. Get yourself a decent hotel room, then spend it on the cheap brunches, and sit out along the road by McCarran and watch some nice crab landings.

The best odds in the casino for the player is the "dont pass" bet on the craps table.

Gambling is a game of odds...... The odds are always against you. ALWAYS.

So if you want the best odds put your money on the "Don't Pass" bar.

Craps is also the most exciting game in the casino. Most are scarred of Craps because they dont know how to play.

Look at the $100 dollars as the price of a ticket to a Broadway show, or a dinner at a great resturaunt. It's the price for the entertainment value. Kiss it goodbye because its the price of admission.

Remeber one other thing. If you do get lucky and beat the odds....walk away.... the longer you play the law of averages will take over.... and remeber.... the odds are in their favor.

JET

P.S. The odds are different in every casino. The house sets the rules of the table.... minimum bets and so forth that control the odds of you winning. The big strip casinos offer the worst odds.

The best odds in Vegas are in the smaller casinos like Binyons. Thats where the hardcore gamblers go. They offer better odds to attract gamblers just want to gamble. The better your odds obviously the beter your chances of winning.

The odds for the table should be posted on a plaque at the gaming table.

Quarter slots are a joke........ PLEASE DON'T

Get in on a good craps game..... Pick up a paperback at the bookstore and learn to bet craps....

Quarter slots are for old ladies.....

I'd be embarrassed for you.......

I know a guy who only had $7 with him to Vegas, so you're lucky you have more then 7 bucks. At least he paid for gas and had like couple bucks to gamble with. If we went alone, he would be screwed. Big grin

Well I am off to Sin City today, fly out of College Station in a couple of hours. Thanks for the tips, I was told by a buddy of mine that he has done well at Binyons, there and at Bally's. I'll keep you posted on my winnings, and let you know when I went broke.

Well, put it this way, at least you can only lose $1000! I managed to lose $1400 in a few hours! I am not usually a gambler (apart from the odd lottery ticket) but Vegas was pure heroin in terms of how addictive it was!
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Well things have gotten a bit better......
JETPILOT should be ashamed of me, because after plunking down 40 in Blackjack and Craps, tonight I took Ten dollars and hit $90 in the quarter slots at the Venetian, so now I am back on top for the trip with 5 days to go. Though I don't know how I am going to top my visit to Harrah's where I had the opportunity to see Former Miss Nude World, Vanna Lace.....Sweet. You can see her at www.vannalace.com, and if I can figure how to scan the polaroid she and I took together and post it I will.
