One of the most popular sports in Italy (aside from football) is to denigrate everything is italian (people, behaviors, etc.) and to glorify (almost) everything that comes from abroad (we are the opposite of everybody else in the world...).
People in the north criticize south ones for their behaviors and viceversa; we say our cities are dirty, nobody respects nobody, we get angry when somebody try cheat us, but we fell very smart if we do
. And then, you can always hear someone says: "The Germans are better, the French are better, the American are better. I would like to live in Paris or Barcelona or New York, bla, bla, bla...".
I understand F.pier, 'cos I do it too, and I know that only an Italian could start a topic saying I am Italian but sincerely I'm not proud to be
In the end, I think that criticize your own country and habits is a good thing (it prevents you from thinking you are the best in the world...), but, after all, I'm proud to be ITALIAN (from north to south)!
P.S.: ...but when you see an Italian in a foreigner country be sure he is wishing for his little house, his habits, his food...
