Right, so the spotters are invited by the Greek Air Force to take photos but are then arrested for writing the registration numbers down.....

Do we need this type of country in the EU?

Its hard to believe that they were 'invited' in the military base. Its really hard to get invited in civil airports in Greece. I believe that the verdict is insane too.

I will try to neglect the above statements from the two British gentlemen who talk while they'd rather be out of the EU.

I think that second comment is a fair point, Lewis, so I shan't take issue with the EU and Greece! Big grin

I'm curious to know though, what the general reaction to the verdicts and sentences is amongst the Greek people as a whole? Is your view common or not?

Yeah, the entire country should be judged on 1 court case alone...

Guilty of keeping tabs on an airforce that borders on Third World, who's entire fleet specs and details could be learned within a few hours on the Internet?....and who's capabilities are already known by their adversaries as required by treaties?

Someone in the Hellenic Air Force is suffering from a serious case of small penis syndrome.

I am simply shocked. This is ridiculous. Come to Switzerland, here you may take photographs of our F/A 18 Hornet. As many as you want to.

We dont care about any other country. Here, laws are laws. Although I believe that they werent spies, they should have been more careful when entering a military base. Even if you are invited, you ask about every possible detail, even how to take a piss... you dont take decisions by yourself. End of story.

Lewis has a point, Greek law has to be respected and as far as I am concerned common sense should tell you that some countries do not understand the concept of plane spotting and who can blame them, some of us must look like total nut cases.
Of course those countries that turn a blind eye to such activities will be outraged, but when in Rome.........

I also posted this in the civil av thread:
During my USAF career, European planespotters were the bain of my existence. Fences, rules, limitations were for "other people"...but we're SPOTTERS was the attitude when they were told they couldn't have access to a "non-public area". My take...they violated the laws of soverign nation while participating in their "hobby". Do the crime...do the time.
