Hey Mikas,

I went this summer to Turkey for a whole lead-around in the country (it was no beach holiday).

Turkey is a very beautifull land with very friendly people.

Sad that you don't go with your family  Sad

I used to spend a lot of time in Turkey for work, mainly around Istanbul and a little around Izmir. Istanbul is one of those very rare cities that simply seem alive at their very core, like Hong Kong, NYC, Paris or London. Izmir's coastline has fabulous sights.

I went to Istanbul and Kusadasi last July on a cruise. Istanbul is a beautiful and big city that is both modern and full of history. Kusadasi a nice little port town that has a lot of historic sites nearby including the Virgin Mary's house. It's a great country.

Sorry you won't be going  Sad

I've been to Marmaris a couple of years ago,

For good restaurants and shops, a very good nightlife and some exciting boat and jeep excursions nearby; Marmaris is the place 2 be!!

For beaches, Marmaris is unfortunately not the place to be, luckily there is a town called Icmeler about 7 KM from Marmaris with a nice beach and if you're gonna make a boat excursion to Turtle Beach you will visit a very good beach as well.......

the bus transfer from the nearest airport (Dalaman, DLM) is about 1,5 hours, and most of the hotels are widely spread over the town, especially in the suburb called Armutalan, that's about 5 KM from the centre of Marmaris, but easy to reach by taxi or Dolmus (on demand bus service)

I experienced Turkey as a beautiful country where the people still share a lot of hospitality.....and the food....oh my god.....DELICOUS!!!  Big thumbs up.....It can be very hot during the summer season....much warmer than for example in Spain or Italy....so be prepared for that.....and ofcourse, but thats logical....respect for the way of living out there....Besides of the fact the people living on the coastsides have a more free way of living, Turkey is still a Muslim country.........

So that's my opinion on Turkey/Marmaris.....I hope your parents and sister will enjoy their holiday out there!!  Big thumbs up

Been to Turkey several years ago and ever since I've wanted to go back (but haven't had a chance yet).
Great country, great people, fine food.
You must indeed respect that they are Muslim, even though separation of church (or should that be mosque) and state is defined in the constitution. Do not think that Turkish people are fundamentalists or terrorists. They are among the most moderate Muslims around and do not tolerate fundamentalism (in fact, it is outlawed as it is not allowed in their constitution).

Didn't go to Marmaris (we did drive past but didn't stop).
I wish I were flying

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Turkey, DO IT!
I have been twice, and in my opinion it is simply one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited. Indeed, as stated here, the people and food are out of this world. Incredible history, ruins, fantastic, picturesque beaches, and much much more. I have to admit, the first time I travelled there, I was not exactly thrilled about going (we took a side trip from Greece),
but once there, we were more than impressed by the
friendly, hospitable people, and blown away by the sheer physical beauty of Turkey.

I was in Antalya and tha is also a resort town. Don't know how it is in Marmaris, but at least in Antalya it was a very good quality holiday for a very reasonable price. I was in several other tourists destinations, and all there worse and (ussually) more expensive. However, the sand is still the best in Palanga  Smile .

I've been to Turkey several times, however the most recent time was 6 years ago so I can't remember TOO much!! I do remember really liking Instanbul, especially the Bazar(?) where we carpet shopped, and walked around, and the blue mosque! Great food in Turkey too!
