YES!!!

I hope also for a lucky day for Leverkusen on Saturday. If Bayern Munich will win the German championship, I quit looking soccer forever.

Racko

If Alex Ferguson had employed the correct tactics throughout the game i.e. 2 forwards and 4 midfielders, the result would probably have been different. But seeing that he used the stupid tactic that has not worked at all in European games for 70 minutes, I'm not surprised at the result!

Three clearances of the line suggest that Leverkusen were lucky but it may be a bit of a relief that Utd aren't in the final as they would have been torn to shreds by Real Madrid!

Looks like a first trophyless season since 1998 (there are some exceedingly unofficial rumours that the cleaning staff were running out of polish for the silverware, and requested at least 2 seasons of winning nothing).

At least there's one team in Manchester that will be bringing home the silverware. But not the one that wears red!

Howard (and Banco when he makes an appearance)

Rumour has it that no-one knows where the trophy room is at Maine Road as it's been so long since they won anything. Hence, they needed to get a new ground to put the 1st Division Championship Trophy in the correct room.

Playing veron was a mistake. He is just not a united player, he doesn't fit into the team, simple as that. Don't know what Scholes was doing on the right, as he was hopeless! Scholes should have been in the middle with keane making those darting runs into the box with keane sitting back slightly playing the anchor man role.

Oh well.......who cares? We are the team of the season!

Most disappointed.

Shame on Manchester United. If they do not win the cup next year I will stop following them on the news.

Scotty - Funny if it rains eh? Big grin

Well, I have to say Leverkusen were lucky, after outclassing Man U in the first leg, I thought they couldn't contain them as well on their own ground. Luckily, Man Utd gave away tons of stuff, defended terribly and missed valuable chances.

Its sad that there is nobody from England left in the Champions league, may next year eh?

Veron IS a United player. It helps if he plays in the correct postion i.e. as he did in from the 70th minute to the 89th minutes , alongside a ball winner. He is not a winger.

Team of the season? I'd say Man City with the best Premiership side being Newcastle (i.e. relatively low position to third position in a couple of years).

Although I think it is indisputable that player for player Man Utd are a much better team than Bayer, I thought Bayer deserved it overall (especially after the 2-2 in Manchester). If Man utd had won, it would have been an injustice IMHO. Well done Bayer - I hope they win the cup now.  Smile

Good job.

Racko, I didn't listen to the game yesterday but the breakdown you mentioned that probably is something like I had last Satruday when I listened to the Bundesliga live radio. That was close too - But Dortmund won.

And on Saturday we all have to cheer for Dortmund, that they win the series !

Yeah, i also hope Dortmund wins the Bundesliga, they're my favourite out of the 3 remaining clubs.

BTW, when will the UEFA Cup final take place ? The Champions League final is in 2 weeks, i think

You have to say that Leverkusen deserved it. Their performance at Old Trafford was thrilling, and while United actually did quite well to get a draw in Germany, they were never in control even at 1-0 up.

Apart from my obvious pleasure at seeing United go out (not because of people like you David, but the thousands of "where is Manchester, anyway?" glory-hunters) I am delighted to see the success of a small club like Leverkusen. It gives hope to everyone.

Oh, and David: shooting at an empty goal is no fun; try to be more creative when slagging off City, please. Big grin

Banco, it was about as creative as Utd's attacks last night. Come the summer, expect one defender to arrive (and Blanc to stay on for another year).

Anyone still want to call it the Champions League when we have the prospect of a side never having won their domestic championship being crowned champion side of Europe?

Arsenal
Does three title wins in three years and 7 in 9 not distinguish Utd from Leverkusen? It is a tad embarrassing that we won the trophy whilst runners-up the previous year, but at least we have won the domestic championship!

Past glories mean nothing. On the whole, United are a much better side than Levekusen but yesterday, there was no proof of that!

We used to have a European Cup for the champions until the big clubs got gready. I always though it was good enough along side the cup winners cup and EUFA cup,

On a brighter note, I will be in Madrid on the night of the final and with Real being favourates tonight it could be an evening to remember.

Sadly, UEFA are also going to wreck the UEFA Cup by turning it into a league format. Oh, wonderful.  Yeah sure

The whole "Champions" League (and what was wrong with "European Cup" anyway?) goes on for far too long. The first group stage is a complete waste of time as we all know which teams will get through - apart from the odd one every dozen years or so. The fans aren't interested either, the attendances for these matches are dire.

Now, last night's match was (regardless of who you wanted to win) hugely entertaining, because there was something at stake. In other words, cup football.

But, the big clubs are greedy, and so want as many matches as possible. They then whinge about fixture congestion. Tough. You wanted it that way, so stop complaining.

Oh, one good thing about last night, well, actually there were many good things about last night, but this one in particular: at least David Beckham won't be rushed back for a final and can get on with being fit for the World Cup.

And I do like to see that miserable old git Ferguson whinge yet again. He had the nerve to say Bayer were lucky. Sour grapes. United were outplayed, and I'll be cheering Leverkusen on in the final.
