Likes - Toby McGuire. Outstanding casting. There are dozens of young Hollywood pretty boys that would have killed to be Spidey...to their credit, the producers bypassed them all & choose this kid, who IS the quintessential bad haired, pasty skin dork at movie's open. Even after nicely filling out when he becomes buff Spiderman, the dorky hair remains!
(As I gay man, my credibility is suspect but I thought Kristen Dunst looked anorexic and...well, addicted hehehe. But I guess the two steps from a crack whore look is in.)
Likes - The film develops the Spiderman charecter in a smart, believable way. The pro wrestling scene is ingenius!
Likes - The moviemakers took notable steps not to let the special effects swamp the story line. Great balance of the two.
Love! - The newspaper editor charector. GREAT comic relief.
Dislikes - Hokey love story. Comic book writing can get very hokey, and there comes a time when comic book writing needs to give way to film script writing. This was one of them. It didn't happen. The love scenes brought the whole movie to a stop.
Dislikes - The suit was way too cool not to have been explained a tad better.
Dislikes - Wilem Dafoe did a great job playing the Green Goblin. I just thought the charector could have been less obnoxious and more....well, evil!
By the way - This is the first major movie with Manhattan as its' setting that painfully tries to avoid shots of the lower city skyline. The do an admirable job, as well as paying tribute in their own way to the FDNY, NYPD and New Yorkers in general. But the lack of panorama shots (a movie tradition) ...was depressing.
Again, good fun. Worth the bank.
