What's The Best-selling Car In The Usa?

Wed May 08, 2002 6:06 am

I'm wondering, what is the best-selling car in the United States?

In Europe, the best selling car is the VW Golf and in Germany in the last months it was a close battle between the BMW 3 Series and the Golf, but i think the Golf was still on top. The selling numbers of the Golf will rise again with the release of the newest edition.

In the US I believe it was the Toyota Camry as the best selling passanger car...but that is far behind the most popular vehicle, the Ford F-150 series pickup.

In Canada, the most popular car in the past year was the domestically produced Honda Civic, with the Chrysler/Dodge Caravan as the most popular vehicle.

Actually, the best selling passenger car in the US in 2001 was the Honda Accord. Until then, I think it was the Toyota Camry.

The primary reason why the Accord beat out the Camry for 2001 was because Toyota was doing the switch to the new 2002 model. So basically they couldn't make enough to meet demand. So I'd be willing to suspect the Camry takes the top spot for 2002, while Honda gears up for the new 2003 model.

Yea, I think camery will win again, but who knows. Maybe one day a american car maker will make a car that can compete with one of these. We own a camery (00) and its great. Ill drive it over our Volvo S80, way smoother car.

Honestly I think it is going to be a pretty long time until something from a domestic make takes back the best-selling car title.

After the Ford Taurus was dethroned in 1998 by the Camry I just don't see it happening. Even more the Camry was redesigned for the 2002 model year. The Taurus hasn't changed (except for an exterior freshening) since 1996.

More interesting Toyota has been popping in and out of the #3 spot in total sales in the US. Seems like DaimlerChrysler is on the verge of being dethroned as the #3 automaker in the US.

I think it is very sad that the best selling car in America is the the boring Camry. I mean who would of thought that driving something that feels like your living room couch on wheels would ever be appealing.

True drivers drive German. Some of us, enjoy driving, enjoying pushing our finely tuned machines to the limit, enjoy hearing the engines purr and enjoy having some feeling of the road beneath the steering wheel. Now for everyone else they can have their camry's......the most boring car in America.

Me I want to drive.

Most people who drive Camrys really don't care what they drive. They are the people who fly and do not care which airline or which aircraft. Its just a way to get between point A and B.

Personally I would drive a Camry (do not even ask), the new 5spd Camry SE model really appeals to me in the Salsa Red Pearl color. But I digress.

Toyota has a fine product on their hands and it really shows in parking lots around the country.

The V6 Camry has alot of bite to it. Don't bash until you try it at least. I realy enjoyed my time with my 2001 Camry V6, but tomorrow I am trading it in for a 2001.5 Passat 1.8Turbo!

Drive a camry and see how nice the ride is. Then you will understand why so many people buy them.

I would take a Ford or GM before a Toyota any day and its mostly just that parts are 3x the price. For a truck I go F-150 then Sierra/Silverado.

I've bashed the Toyota Camery many times in the past but hey, it is selling very well. You can't argue with that. My mother has one, my girlfriend's mother has one, three of my friends mother's owns one too. I am beginning to think that the Camery is strictly for mothers. Big grin
They are good cars and they hold there value.

I would never buy one.

The Camery doesn't feel like a living room couch to me.
That would be the Mercury Grand Marquis.
Now that is a fascinating vehicle!  Big thumbs up

I don't know about North America, but I know the Ford focus is the best selling car in the world for last 2 years.

Last year Toyota was # 3 for sales in North America over all (took over Chryslers usual spot). That's the first time an import has ever made it in the top 3.

Toyota Camry is the best selling car in North America. Great car but would never buy one, I like Nissan a lot better.
