Andy Flintoff Warms Up For The Summer

Thu May 09, 2002 12:40 am

Lancashire just been bowled out for 320 against Surrrey at the Oval and Flintoff made merry to the tune of 137 of 106 balls. It seems like a typical innings as well: 20 4s and 3 6s.

Add this to the bowling performance on Monday of 4-11 in 7 overs and on Sunday where he made a patient 47 (at just under a run a ball!) before the crowd encouraged him to do a big hit and was bowled, and one can see that he appears to be in the best form of his life.

I wonder what he'll do against the Sri Lankans in a weeks time.

David/MAN: wanting to have been at the Oval.

ps I'll be amazed if this thread gets a reply!

Be amazed; be very amazed.

I think Freddie could turn out to be something very special indeed.
She's as nervous as a very small nun at a penguin shoot.

Since Murali appears to be out of the series, England could actually hope to win a test, or at least, take an innings lead at least once  Laugh out loud

Two wickets and a catch to report for him now. Methinks Surrey will be humbled in this game; they ended the day on 106-7 after 33 overs.

I'll also venture to suggest that it can't be coincidence that the teams started so well with a new coach/manager and new captain, with the previous incumbent captain in pastures new.

Barfbag, if Durham with reserve players can rattle up almost 500 against the Lankans, imagine what the full-blown English team will do! What's the record Test score... 952, isn't it?

When I checked Lancs weren't doing too well. Flintoff can turn a game like that!I will be at PIK+GLA on Tuesday and Wednesday so I can't wait for the test to start on Thursday.Might even make my way upto Kennington if any tickets are left.

Well, where are two ways to see it... the Lankans may be genuinely short on bowling strength (which I doubt, despite Murali's absence), or they may be simply setting the stage for the series by deliberately underperforming. Its happened before - many times.

I hope for their sake they are underperforming as I forgot Matthew Fleming's run fest in the previous game with him scoring a 100 off 60 or so balls! One of the bowlers bowled something like 13 overs for 110.

The bowlers in the Durham game:

Vaas 22-2-79-3
Zoysa 20.2-1-98-3 (8nb)
Perera 22-2-112-3
Amerasinghe 5-0-30-0
Samaraweera 9-0-54-0
de Silva 3-0-10-0
Jayawardene 9-0-45-1 (2nb)
Tillakaratne 3-0-30-0

Pretty much the prospective Test bowlers opening up; I imagine the Muralitharan will probably take the place of Amersinghe.
