High Performance Laptop

Thu May 16, 2002 8:19 am

Hey-

I'm in the market for a new laptop; I'm tired of this old desktop.

I want one that's fast, will run FS2002, have room for hundreds of mp3s, play DVDs, and burn CDs. (need one that is reliable)

What are the best options out there? Preferably under $3000.

Also - how much is high speed Internet going to cost me a month?

Thanks,

I love my dell, I have a dell latitude C600, it is a PIII-850 with 20gb hard drive and 512mb ram. Plenty fast enough for anything I need and managed to get it as a refurbfrom DELL that was never actually delivered to the client...for 825 bucks !!

Sorry, I read the post incorrect.

I thought it was High Performace Lap Dance.

Therefore, I have nothing to add.  Smile

Just saw that Alienware has a laptop that is Pentium 4 2.4 GHz. Its about 1 to 2 hundred over your three thousand range. Go check it out at www.alienware.com

The Titanium PowerBook G4. Enough said. Let others bash this computer...You will piss yourself when you first use it.

174thfwff,

I beg to differ. It is a great computer, my family owns one and I use it time to time, but I am still a sticker to PCs. However, it is one of the better Macs that I've ever used.

There is no need to get a laptop that is P4 -3,000,000,00GHZ, very few things need anything like that power to run things

174thfwff, you're right! I just got a Titanium and my Mac-hating, ever-Apple-bashing, PC-friend pissed himself just looking at it. When I told him this beauty (that's less than an inch thick-CLOSED) had the built-in DVD-player, wireless LAN/Internet, CD-burner, and 1 Gb RAM, then he proceeded to shit himself. Every time he comes over, he makes me fire it up so he can play with it.

Both iTunes and iPhoto are very cool if you like MP3s and have a digital camera.

Jet, Don't you just love that screen? It's so big and easy on the eyes.

How I do wish I could have held off and waited for the Titanium.

September of 2000 I needed a laptop from school and everyone knew the G4 was next, which was enough for me. No one knew then it would be so sleek. I couldn't wait till MWSF though, so I got a 400mhz g3. Using it now, still is cool. Mainly I just use it for wireless internet around the house. I use my dual 800 for real stuff.  Smile

The only thing is that the Titanium won't run FS2002.

It will run X-Plane well though.  Smile

I have also got to say if you are a gamer, I'd stick to a desktop.

How much is high speed internet access going to cost a month?

I dont really understand how that works. Suppose you aren't somewhere that has a line for that - could you still connect using dial-up?

Thanks,
Hank

Dell or Sony?

Also... about the internet access thing... I checked and they don't have high speed access in my area yet (i live in the middle of nowhere)... so is there someone that has a toll free dial up number for when I'm out of town? How much $$ a month for the connection??

Thanks,
Hank
