Light A Candle With Me...

Sun May 26, 2002 4:59 am

Was just watching the Israeli song at the Eurovision....

At Israel everyone are saying that because of political reasons we have no chance in winning this year... I guess its true... oh well... as if I care...  Big grin

So who's gonna win?

I voted for Israel. 50% because it was a good song, 50% because of political reasons.
Too bad the performance wasn't that good. She sounded very nervous.

Hey guys,

May I ask why Israel is represented in the Eurovision song contest? Are they not from the Middle East?

Yesterday night when the Israeli jury called to give their points they started as follows -

Here the israeli jury from "Jerususalem, the capital of Israel".

This was a political sentence and the message was very clear...

What do you think about it?

I think that the Eurovision is a total political event.

mx5:
Israel does every competition together with the European countries. No matter if its football, handball, basketball, or singing (was there any real song yesterday Big grin ). Just because of the well known political reasons.
Or could you imagine a Israeli team playing football against Saudi Arabia in jeddah???

Israel's in the competition as it's a member of the EBU... but so is Morocco, so if they wanted, they could be in the ESC.

Morocco participated once, but later refused because of...Israel's presence in the contest since 1973.

The song was not bad, but not a winner...so the essential has been done : Israel is qualified for next year's finale.

The contest is highly political ; in 1991, Israel lost only because of (openly ad itted) political considerations... There are often calls to boycott the Israeli entry, and it is reported that the State televisions of Sweden and Belgium have asked their viewers not to vote for Israel last Saturday night...If this a purely artistic criteria...
Cyprus gives 12 pts to Greece, and Greece gives 12 pts to Cyprus, that's one of the contest's traditions...and there are some others!

The political voting was ridiculour - all the Baltic States give each other points, Greece and Cyprus give each other maximum points etc. The song contest was notable only for an absolutely horrendous Greek song.

The only decent song I have heard that has won the contest was a few years ago when the Israeli entrant was a transexual called Dana International and he/she sung a song called 'Diva'. That song is excellent - I still listen to it today!
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?
