Last 102 Minutes At The World Trade Center

Fri May 31, 2002 3:56 pm

I don't know what words I would use to describe this article that ran in last Sunday's New York Times. Chilling and moving come to mind. It pieces together the final 102 minutes of the World Trade Center from phone calls to 911, calls to loved ones, videos that were shot by various people and personal accounts of survivors from the upper floors of the World Trade Center who managed to survive. It's 8 pages and you have to register with the New York Times to be able to read it, but the registration is free and they don't send you SPAM. It is well worth the few minutes it takes to register to read this story - one of the better ones I have seen.

I read this article in the paper last Sunday. It was certainly chilling, but in retrospect a bit calming to see that many people who were caught in the Towers and could not come out accepted death. Once they accepted it, they tried to help others to safety or call relatives one final time. I did indeed cry...and it really was a very poignant tribute to everyone who died in the 9/11 tragedy.

One of the most heartbreaking details were the estimated 200 or so in the South Tower who went UP to the roof, thinking about a helicopter rescue...in a perfectly good stairwell that could have taken them all the way to the ground.

Never forget.

Its just, so sad. So many intelligent, loving people died that day  Sad.

Hearing that 3000 people died is bad, but just to think how each person lost their lives is just, horrific. Hearing that people were in the viewing gallery when one of the a/c hit it is aweful, what must have been going through their heads when they saw the 767 heading towards them.

Great article, very frightening. Brought a tear to my eye.
