I agree. Things aren't exactly a bed of roses right now. Of course that's nothing new. I agree, tensions have been flaring pretty bad this year.
Now closer to home (which IMO counts more anyway), the year has been ok for me. But me being the workaholic that I am, I am apalled that the year is already half over. I haven't done anything outside of work to show for it. It's just work/eat/sleep. That's my life in a nutshell.
However, my day today got off to a bad start:
At about 0420, as I was on my way into work, I struck an object on the freeway at about 75 MPH. I never saw it-that particular stretch of freeway was not well lit. It had to be a chair or a ladder or something big. The car bumped loud and violently as I hit it. A short time later, I was on the side of the road with a flat tire. Upon examining the car, I saw that my front ledft side bumper was gouged and scraped pretty badly, my left headlight was cracked, and one of my reflectors was gone. Totally punched out.
And when I proceeded to change the tire and put the spare on, I made another heart sinking discovery:
the wrench I have does not fit the lug nuts I have on my wheels (I had them replaced when I put new tires on last fall.
So I had to call AAA to come out and change it for me.
Now I have to buy a new tire and a new reflector. I don't know what I'm going to do about the bumper though. It's scraped and scratched pretty bad. But it's only on the left/front quarter; I did not hit the object head on. It was more of a "side swipe". But my car is 7 years old, with 138K miles on it. A new bumper will probably cost me about a grand. So I guess my best bet is to buff out the scrapes as best as I can and try and touch them up with some paint.
But I'm not upset about it beyond the carelessness of whoever let the object fall into the roadway. What am I going to do? I don't even know what it was that I hit. So I'm not going to let it bother me.
