Can You Give Feedback On My Science Assignment.

Sun Jun 09, 2002 1:43 pm

I have made a website for m science assignment on how planes fly. I have 99% finished it and so I would like some feedback about the site in relation to its information being correct. This assignment is worth 30% of my yearly mark so its quite important.

The address is www.howplanesfly.cjb.net

To give me some feedback you can reply to this post or fill in the form on the website.

Great, great, great! You have done a wonderful job! You explain it in a nutshell. One thing maybe, how about a few different types of aircarft in your project? Good luck!

Amazing that Johan himself deleted my post asking people to visit my web site. This one has been here 4 days. I have a site with over 1000 technical and non technical photos of aircraft systems.

From Johan:
I deleted it as it was a clear violation of the rules. The reason there is such a rule is that we do not want posts of the kind "Hey look at my homepage that I've updated" flooding the forum (yes, everyone has a newly updated webpage). Such posts are of no value to the community as a whole.

Awwwww, TechRep, do you want a medal? You were blatently advertising your site, which is against the rules. This kid is showing off his science project. Bit different isn't it?

Yeah, I hate to say it but I do think you stepped a bit over the line there Techrep.

I used to have a website that was mostly links to manufactures of airframes, powerplants and components. Also had a lot of aviation sites of interests on it.

It made me nervous to post the address on this site because of the advertising rule but it was a hell of a lot easier then remembering and then typing in all of those URL's.

My site was made for A.Net users, has no adverts or costs anything, it is completely free. To me my picture site is my science project and is just as important to me. If I can't show off my creation why should this post be able to do the same?

So why don't you go email Johan and stop whining about it on here?

Being subtle is key I guess.

Shouting it out is what killed you there.

Just let people know it is there when there is a question about Doinkers.

777236ER:

TechRep has presented a very valid point. I do not think he is "whining" about it, instead he is looking for an answer to a very valid question.

Also, emailing Johan is not always going to get you an answer.

Is posting it in non-av going to get an answer? No it's not. At most the posts are going to get deleted. I think there IS a difference between a 15 year old's science project and a 30+ year old's website, however good the intentions are.

It is whining about it if he posts it in the non-av forum, in the middle of another thread. Johan isn't going to get to see it, and he's just looking for support from everyone else.

Why not post this in site-related, or email a mod? Right now it just seems like he's bitter.

777236ER:

Science project or not, it is the exact same thing that TechRep got popped for, that this "kid" is not. Here in lies one of the biggest complaints on this site. Why does one stay, and one go? You said TechRep was blatantly advertising his website...as is Tomwato. Do I have a problem with either site? Nope. To me, worrying about that is more like nitpicking, but "My site was made for A.Net users, has no adverts or costs anything, it is completely free. To me my picture site is my science project and is just as important to me. If I can't show off my creation why should this post be able to do the same?" as TechRep said, he has a very valid point. By posting it, whether Johan sees it, or a Moderator sees it, maybe he can get an answer on why the double errrrr why him mentioning his site was a problem, and why This example appears not to be. Don't mistake looking for a valid answer for whining and crying. Not every question one person has is them b*tching about something.

Oh, this discussion is on the Non-Av, due to the location of the new post in question.

Yeah, there are double standards, however TechRep's initial approach (as I remember it) was "here's my site. Enjoy". There was nothing about it being not for profit or for A.net users specifically. To be honest, the site is very good and it is a very good reference for people here, (after all, you don't see links to Bill Harms's site deleted do you?). Tech Rep's site should be linked from A.net - it's very good. However, there IS a difference between a 15 year old's "look at my science project website!" and a 30+ year old's "here is my site, check it out."

If TechRep's link was deleted for violation of the rules then he should make sure that he points out that it IS specifically for A.net users, and that it IS an aviation, not for profit site. Sulking about it won't help.

What is the difference? As far as I can tell, there is none.

okay, back to the real thread  Wink/being sarcastic

Interresting, a lot.
I thought I knew how planes flew, well, I learned a few more things on your site. Like for instance why the angle of the propeller changes with the distance to the center !

The only thing I thik you could improve, in the moving parts section, is the fact that almost every page of this section begins with "As I found out before the wings/flaps/elevator... are located..." you should try to change the expression used, it can become a bit 'repetitive'

And at the bottom of the Wings page, you wrote 'When now know', I think you meant 'We now know'

Big hand for you, it's a great site overall, simplified enough to make a non technical/non aviation person understand how plane fly !  Big thumbs up

The advert-ban is obviously to stop people circumventing the official adverts by slipping in the url to their site in the post. A kids science project (where he says it's a science project and it;s very obvious that it IS a science project) is not the type of site that the ad-ban should ban. However, a 30+ professionals site, who doesn't point out that its aviation-related, not for profit, for A.net users etc this on the surface looks like it's an advert to a different type of site than a 15-year olds science project.

Hi Tomwato,
The site looks great, but I did find a few errors. I hope you will not get mad at me for pointing them out!

Homepage:
-Hit Counter is not visible. (At least not when I visited the website)
-"Click to here to enter" (1 times "to" will be enough)

Next page:
-My Aim was to find out how each part of a aero plane can effect how a plane fly's be that at takeoff, landing or mid flight. Take note that this assignment is to find out how a both private (smaller) and commercial planes fly even through some photos and diagrams will be of the the different types of planes it is still the same principle. ( I believe that there are grammatical and/or spelling errors in the bold typed words)

-What I firstly did (I think that "What I did first..." sounds a lot better.)

-how it can effect how a plane flies (effect =affect)

These were the only two pages I reviewed. The layout looks great and the pictures I saw are very nice! Nevertheless I think you should take more care of spelling and grammar.

I'm sure you will be able to get a job as webdesigner when you leave school!

(Oh, by the way, english is a foreign language to me. I usually speak Dutch. So, I might be making a big fool out of myself by making a few spelling and/or grammatical errors in this reply!)  Nuts

Regards,
Erasmus.

777236ER:

Funny, I never took TechRep's site as a personal advert to get me to go to his sjite just because, nor did I get the impression that it was for profit. I took it as him sharing a site that has a more specified information on a part of aviation. I'm willing to bet that crybabies and "suggest deletion" happy people didn't even bother to find anything out about the site first.

Also, if you want to get technical, us going to a "15 year olds" site is benefiting him directly, whether by hits or by the fact that he stands to gain from positive suggestions from users here.

KROC, I don't really care if either ad stays or goes. TechRep's site is good, this kid's site is pretty good. I'm just point out how TechRep's post on here could easily have been mistaken for a blatent advert .

777236ER. I agree about not caring whether they stay or go, but continuity is key. I just wanted to point out the fact that both threads are of the same nature. Hobby or Science project. The way both threads were done. They should both be judged fairly. Either they both stay, or both go.

I am not trying to advertise my site I am just trying to get a good science mark. People coming to my site is just a bonus. Anybody else have some comments about my site?

P.S. I will update it on weekend so for all those people who have helped my I have viewed your changes and will change my site.
