Whats Your Ride?

Wed Jun 12, 2002 11:12 pm

I was just wondering what kind of cars you all drive. As of last week I have a white 1991 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo Type R with red interior. A helluva lot of fun to drive. 280 hp. I got a from a guy (my flight instructor) who really needed to get rid of it or else he'd have to pay a lot to re-register it. Cost me 200$. Only things that are wrong with it is that the water pump is slowly going (though he included a new one that just needs to be put in with the car), a strange sound from the rear suspension. Just some stuff that needs to be tightened I think, and the right front brakepad needs to be replaced. Engine is very clean and in awesome condition, and the above mentioned problems haven't really effected the ride any that I can tell. The only thing about the water pump is that you can't drive it over 60 miles or it will start to overheat. But I rarely drive that far at one time anyway. Well...what do you drive?

A 1988 Buick Park Avenue (beige) with all the trimmings (including a digital dash, power everything, and a Delco/Bose audio system). This may sound weird coming from a young person, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! (Except maybe a 2002 model year Park Ave...)

According to my conversion table (HP = KW * 1.34), your engine is roughly 54HP (I don't have your engine's efficiency factor, so I can't give you exact figures...)

Red 1997 Subaru Outback...don't ask me about its horsepower or other technical specifications...I'm a spoiled brat who just gets to drive his own car and gets his parents to take care of the maintenance. Honestly.

TurbineBeaver- And you're a college student? How much do mommy and daddy make? No, I'm not hating on you, but there's no way you could have bought those if your profile is accurate.

My ride? MARTA, Atlanta's subway, sexy huh?

But one day- I'm going to buy a 60s Impala and lower it, put 20'' rims, install hydraulics, and on my hood, have a painting of a nude Virgin Mary holding my my car above her head with a beam of light shining on it!!

Hartsfieldboy, I totally appreciate your commitment towards public transport! If everybody would use public transport instead of his/her own car, the world would surely be a better place to life.
The only problem (and the reason why I have a car) is: If I sell my car and use public transport instead, the world does not really become a better place - but I have to get up earlier to arrive at work on time.

Dragogoalie, get that water pump replaced pronto. Good cooling is especially important on a Turbo car. Sounds like you got a real steal. I just hope you trust the guy. It sounds too good to me. Your strange sound may be a worn out strut. Most people don't think to replace them, and a 91 model would be quite overdue. What concerns me most is the right front brake pad. Both front brakes should wear evenly. If one is due for replacement, and the other isn't, you've got a problem. Either somebody only did half the job last time, or your brake is dragging and prematurely wearing the pad. That's a safety problem. Get that fixed too. Other than that, good luck, and happy motoring.

Hartsfieldboy,

Sorry I didn't use any smileys, I was being sarcastic! Just trying to be the "typical" a.netter. I'm excited to count how many M3s we'll have in this thread, including those in the 16-20 age bracket.

Soon I might go for a Trailblazer or Astro for the fam, but right now I drive a 1997 Chevy Blazer similar to this one:

Mine has a K&N air filter and some other goodies for it. It has the 4.3L V6 and with the goodies it has around 220 HP with 270 ft. lb.s of torque.

Hey LOT763, heck my Blazer will easily out-run most of those little 4-banger ricers on the roads LOL.

BTW I'm the biggest rice hater on the road LOL.

1977 Lincoln Town Car
460cu" (7.5L) V8 that puts out 240HP.
I had to rip out the catalytic converters and put in a dual exhaust to get the extra 20HP.

mines is in the front

Also I have a 1987 Chrysler LeBaron convertible.
What a beautiful piece of junk.  Acting devilish
Car looks as it just came off the showroom floor but it breaks down all the time.

This is what I ride everyday to work.  Smile

A good friend of mines has a 1990 (same car as yours) and it almost never breaks down. He has driven that thing to and from Nebraska 3 times and it's survived 5 Nebraska winters.
He has had to come pick me up many times after my Chrysler LeBaron broke down.
GM has perfected the front drive V6 and 4cyl. automobile.

I drive a '91 Toyota 4Runner. Has 153,000 miles on it and runs great (for the most part) I got it cheap. It's got the 3.0 EFI V6. Not 4wd though.  Crying I'm thinking about putting a flame shooter on my exhaust to scare all the tailgaters.  Big thumbs up
I happen to kinda like rice burners, especially with fart pipes (depends).
I do love those Impalas too. Awesome cars. New ones are retarded though. Not even rear drive.  Nuts Oh well, GM is making it up with the Pontiac GTO coming out in a bit. It's got a 5.7L V8, rear drive, and 2 door. Way cool.

Frequentflyer5, can I ask how much you are asking for your NSX? Would love one of those.

Have fun you all,  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
