Labour Chairman Hits Out!

Thu Jun 13, 2002 3:09 am

Wondering what you think about the comments made by Charles Clarke,Chairman of the Labour Party.IMO HE is the one being hypocritical when his party has relied on The Sun etc for so much support during their time in government.I don't see how papers criticising Labour is damaging democracy or whatever Clarke said.I think it is strengthening it if anything.Labour just don't seem able to take criticsm very well given their manipulation of the media and use of spin doctors.
Anyway, what do you think about the situation?
Cheers,donder

Read my other posts on here and you'll find I'm not.I'm against spin and all the crap that New Labour are using. The government is there to be scrutinised and assessed yet Charles Clarke is attacking the media because it has the audicty to criticise his party.Ummm

Clarke see's himself as a 'bruiser' in the fine tradition of previous Labour politicians like Dennis Healey.
Keep an eye on him, he may go far.
This government is still way too oversensitive, I rarely agree with Piers Morgan of the Daily Mirror, but when he told Clarke that "we think your doing a pretty good job generally, so why not cut out all the spin and other nonsense and just govern?" he had a point.
The economy, previously seen as Labour's weakness, is sound, (which the Tories must really hate!), the opposition still in some disarray, Blair is well respected on the World stage, (something else to get up the Tories's noses!).
Blair can be bold in the international arena, not so sure-footed at home.
Why?
I can only think they've found that getting things done in domestic policies can be much slower than they thought while in opposition all those years.
