If you're trying to find a good paintball gun try http://www.pbreview.com.
They have reviews on a lot of paintball guns.

As for my expierience it really sucks when a paintball hits the part of the mask where your nose and mouth is: I had a really good taste of paint after one battle.

Thanks. I once ran out of amo, so I did draw fire missions. I ran the width of the field five times before getting hit! That was in a speedball round.

DO NOT BUY AN EXPENSIVE GUN YOUR FIRST TIME AROUND!!
Buy the Spyder compact, a new barrel, a amazing mask, 12 oz co2 tank, regular $4.99 hopper, and paint. Trust me on this one.
Just practice practice practice.
I have been playing paintball for 3 years now. I have a 32 degrees Vision Impulse with full freek barrel system, nitro tank, the works.
I started out with a Spyder Compact, and I have not looked back on the decision to start off "cheap". The Compact is a amazing gun for it's price. It lasted me 2 years. only thing I bought as an upgrade? An expantion chamber, and new barrel.

Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten, Uptown, what now? Lets make it happen.

Well... I know about the cheap gun... but I want something that I can compete with still. will that spiderman gun you were talking about compete?

I was once behind a tirewall, I popped my head out just a 3 paintballs flew by... they hit a little hood that was on my mask, knocked it right off! My hair wasnt full of blue paint though, it was full of RED paint!

Yea, the Spyder Compact will compete. It's all skill, not gun. I won many tournaments with it. Buy an autococker after you feel your're ready to compete seriously. A spyder is great for amature tournaments and such, as well as rec. play.

An auto cocker uses air to move all the parts. you can watch the gun cock back when there is no air pack on it. Its smooth. I like them alot.

If this is your first marker, don't get the autococker! Cockers are for experienced players who know what they are doing, even then, many adjustments such as timing the 3-way, needs to be done at a pro-shop (you can do it yourself, but if you screw up, have a nice time), which means $ out the window.

Get a entry level marker to start with, I recommend a Piranha. Reliable, simple internals, easy cleaning, accurate, light weight, wide range of upgrades, and did I mention reliable?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I currently have a G3 STS Powerfeed in Titanium. This marker is a mid-range entry-intermediate marker, however, it can be a serious performer.

GET a Tippman 98. End of story if you want a entry level gun. Durable and the are just great.

The 98 custom is durable (as are all Tippmanns), but they are hell to clean, especially thoroughly. Also, the 8.5" stock barrel doesn't appeal to me.

If I were to go with an Autococker, I'd save up a bit and get a Impulse w/vision eye. Same all pneumatics, but no 3 ways to worry about, and is an electro.

Just my 2??CDN. + experience

So if you dont have an auto cocker does that mean you have to recock the gun every time you fire?

No, only pump markers require manual recocking everytime you fire. Most semi-auto markers uses a blow-back system. When the hammer hits the valve pin, air is released to push the ball out and at the same time, blow the hammer, along with the bolt back.

They are constant. In paintball, when useing CO2, the same amount of air is not always let out every time. If you play like in a tourney, they have carno's. Your gun may shoot 300 fps, then 291. That can be a large distance. The auto regulates it the best. If you had $500, go nitro.  Wink/being sarcastic hehehe. It also recycles air. it sucks the used air back to be used again. The trigger system is the best (if you get the upgrade), Alot of cheap pros uses the Auto Cocker. Its also quiet. It sucks if you gun is load, it gives away your position easier. I dont like the barrel it vomes with though. I like boomsticks. To get a good deal though, get a electro Tippman and buya good barrel for it, then you will be sittin pretty good. Or if you had $1200 + $500, buy an angle. Big grin (you paintball guys know what I am talking about)

The Angel is one of the worst guns out there IMHO. Also USAF, if you're asking what an autococker is, please don't buy one. I bet 110% you won't know how to fix a problem if one occurs and it's not a gun that likes to be taken apart if you don't know what you're doing.

174thfwff:

How do you like the teardrop? Distance, and accuracy wise. How hard is it to clean out the ports if you chop paint? How much better is the freak (assuming it is using standard bore insert). I'm thinking of getting either a teardrop, or a AA back, but a freak front cause I don't need the different bore size. Let me know either email, or here's fine. Thanks

Back to topic:

Ok, do you know what a 3 way valve is? How to time it? How to maintain it? If any of the above results a "NO". Get a simpler marker. Getting Pro-shop to do everything for you results in bleeding $ out the you know where.

USAF, I say get the spyder compact for 83 bucks, get a new barrel, expantion chamber, new dye stickie grips, and you will be in great shape! You can get that all for under 200 and still have money for paint/mask/tank...Whatever.

As for the teardrop...
As of a few months ago, I used a teardrop on my spider Compact in tournaments and in back woods play. I loved it! Actually, my 32 degrees Vision Impulse came stock with a Teardrop, but then I realized that I was signing up for many tournaments and I asked what kind of paint they would use...Every owner said something different and all the paint was different boar size. So, I went and got the freak.

Listen, a barrel is one thing, but paint-barrel match is the best thing you can get. I don't care if it's a Boomstick or a Teardrop, if you find the right ball/barrel combo, it's king. There's where the freak comes in.

My gun is as follows now: 2002 Green 32 Degrees Vision Impulse with vert Max Flow(color matches the gun), full freak, Black Drop forward, dye stickies, tapeworm, WermStick trigger, Earth Derlin Bolt.
As for the freak I have the Teardrop front in green to match my gun, and a stainless steel back. It looks good, and I have all 8 inserts.

I definitely agree with NWA. The cheap Brass Eagle guns (under $100/the plastic ones) are horrible and usually lasts not very long. Well thats my opinion except my proof is that my (cruddy) Blade only lasted for 2 weeks.

I agree about the Brass Eagle guns. I bought one as a starter gun (I was on a budget) and wished I would have saved my money and gotten a different gun. I used it several times and the damn thing never hit anybody! The Piranha is a good gun (many paintball fields use them as their field rentals) for the money. I have seen Sports Authority put the Tippman 98 on special for under $200, and if I were to get back into paintball, I'd more than likely get one with the flatline upgrades.

But I still say get the spyder compact for 83 bucks, get a new barrel $40, expantion chamber $40, new dye stickie grips $20, and you will be in great shape! You can get that all for under 200 and still have money for paint/mask/tank...Whatever.
