Korea's Ahn Released By Italian Team

Thu Jun 20, 2002 1:20 am

After having scored the golden goal for Korea against Italy, Ahn Jung-hwan was released by the italian team, Perugia. The team's president called Ahn's "actions" as "humiliation for the country that had taken him." I believe that this is absolutely ridiculous. The world cup is a competition and Italy should stop being so damn picky and touchy. What was Ahn supposed to have done, sat the whole game because his country was playing the country where he plays professional soccer for? Pathetic.

I agree, this is pathetic. But I doubt Ahn would want to go back anyway. Italian football fans you should be ashamed of your media, I feel sorry for you.
I'm sure that quiet a few teams will offer Ahn a contract. Now let's continue it ain't finished yet.

I believe he should sue for unfair dismissal.

LOL. Make him sue and then go somewhere else, I'm sure many clubs would want him.

ROTFL. Maybe the team president should have made this guy sign a no-compete-against-Italy clause in his contract. Talk about a spoiled loser! The guy goes home to play for his country, and this jerk FIRES him over it?

Anyone have a link to this hysterical story? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard!!

This ranks up there with the Colombian goalie that was murdered for the own goal that allowed the U.S. to win and advance in World Cup '94. Ahn's price just went up because of this. I hope another Serie A team picks him up and he goes on a goal scoring frenzy and makes the Perugia boss look like a complete idiot for sacking him. Of course, I would mind seeing him joining up with the Magpies of NUFC either.

This is the Italian reaction to the game! ROTFL.

I may have to stop critisizing France all the time, reading this cry-baby stuff? And over a GAME? Good Lord, I don't even get this upset watching the Browns or Indians!  Big grin

Italy are the worst losers I've ever seen. They claim the match was fixed? Was the official responsible for Vieri missing an open net from 2 yards to seal the win Italy? And I do think Totti dived. He was on his way down before contact was made.

Have to laugh at the BBC News reporter last night covering this rather pathetic episode, he also mentioned that the Italian team fly home feeling blameless for being eliminated from the competition.
The report ended with him saying "when they fly home, the whining won't stop with the planes engines!"
All the supporters of teams still playing should adopt a popular English chant whenever their teams come on to the pitch, suitably modified for the occasion;
ARE YOU WATCHING?
ARE YOU WATCHING?
ARE YOU WATCHING IT-ALY?
