If You Were Forced Into Your Own Past...

Wed Jun 26, 2002 9:31 am

Forced a significant amount, like a decade. Would you:

a) Understand that in order for things, people, places, etc. to come together as you remember it, you have to relive your life as well as the failures and successions.

--OR--

b) Learn from your mistakes and change your life. But then when people criticize your new-found perfectionism, you cannot defend yourself as your hell never happened.

NOTE: Keep in mind that even if you are in your younger self's body, you still have your older self's maturity level. For example, you cannot date that girl or guy you liked before as if you were never shy. Your friends might consider you somewhat adult-like and/or boring or vice versa.

Honestly, I would never do "b". It would be like having to go at everything like a beginner again, the chances of screwing up skyrocket. I would rather keep my life and make little changes, mainly because I know what will happen. I know who'll say what, I know who'll do what.

I would LOVE to go back to 1985 Belgrade and be 16 (like I am now) I would enjoy Yugoslavia to the fullest before it violently falls apart 6 years later. I would try and convince everyone else I know to do the same.

JAT, I meant forced into your own past into your own body, 1985, you would not have been born. You would have the unfortunate luck of actually witnessing your birth from the inside!

There are several things I would try to do differently. Generally I was not well liked as a child, so I would no longer try to be popular, just to accept me. I may date more young ladies than I did, because I never really got comfortable socializing with people.

Only 10 years? I began living 10 years ago. 1992 was the year I met the woman that I love and will die loving.

Going back farther, say 30 years, I'd change a lot but then maybe I wouldn't have met Susan. No, I would not change a thing in my life.

Option B please. There are a few things that I'd change, but for the most part I'd remain the same.
