Who Will Be The New #1 In Fifa?

Tue Jul 02, 2002 1:38 am

Here is my guess for the new rankings coming out on July 4th.

1. Brazil
2. Germany
3. Argentina
4. S. Korea
5. USA

Just a guess!

Well, I don't think that the ranking will depend only on one World Cup and if it does Turkey should also be together with South Korea at least, don't you think?

What's the actual ranking, is it the same as the one I have seen in the other posting around here?

If the rankings were to have any meaning, logically the top 32 should be based on the World Cup results, giving a 4 yearly cycle. Hence:

1 Brazil
2 Germany
3 Turkey
4 South Korea

and all the way down to

32 Saudi Arabia.

France may be 30th or 31st (I am not such an idiot to calculate an algorithm to find out who goes where!)

Don't ask me how they'll rank 33 to 201. The answer to the world's worst international team was resolved at the weekend. The result:

Bhutan 4 Montserrat 0. Hence, Bhutan retained 202nd position. Unfortunately, the game was played in Bhutan and the altitude may have had an effect on the Montserrat players!

I think it took France something like 2.5 years to become officially the best team in the World after winning the 1998 World Cup  Nuts.

The US wont be in the top 5, Germany may not make it to the top 5 either. South Korea wont make it, Turkey may make it and Brazil will top the pack.

Ratings don't swing that dramtically from one tournament

Spain was ranked number 5 in last WC tournament, we were the best team out of the quarters with 3 wins and 2 ties. I think Spain will climb some positions, maybe it will make it to the top 4.

fifa rankings are calculated simiklar to tennis world rankings.
teams get a certain number of points for wins and draws eben in friendly games..of course much more for world cup games.
the new ranking will indeed not differ that much from the old one and another thing: the ranking has no meaning when it comes to drawing the world cup groups for the first round. there the results of every country involved in former world cups are counting.
subsequently germany will certainly not rank second, but in the next european and world championships germany as thre-times world champion, four-times vice champion and three-times european champion will definitely be set for the first round, whereas the brits.....*ggggggggg*......will have serious problems to qualify!!
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

Germany's problem is that we only perform could if it really counts. We never play good friendly matches, but as soon as we are at the world cup, we start to be successful. Another example is England, they perform good as long as it doesn't count, but they suck at tournaments and will never win a tournament outside their country  Smile

Why would Germany not make the top 5, but turkey will? Germany only lost the final (and as far as I remember...) only dropped 2 points in qualifiers. So they won 5 games, drew 1 and lost 1. Whereas Turkey did not do so good.

It would make sense for Germany to take Argentina's place. I think Argentina should be 6th or 7th.
