Amnesty: The PA Constitute Crimes Against Humanity

Fri Jul 12, 2002 11:38 pm

For the first time in history Amnesty checked what the Palestinians are doing and said that the Palestinians are constituting crimes against humanity when the attack Israeli civilians.
The report also says that no matter what Israel is doing there is no justification for attacking civilians in Israel or in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

"Since the beginning of the Al-Aqsa intifada in September 2000 at least 350 civilians, most of them Israeli, have been killed in over 128 attacks by Palestinian armed groups and Palestinian individuals, Amnesty International documented in a report launched in Gaza."

"In many attacks, perpetrators deliberately targeted people like five year-old Danielle Shefi and 79 year-old Tuvya Viesner, knowing without any doubt that their victims were not members of the Israeli armed forces. Other perpetrators attacked large groups of people in a busy street, a bus, a café, a hotel or a market, knowing that many if not most of the victims would be civilians."

"The attacks against civilians by Palestinian armed groups are widespread, systematic and in pursuit of an explicit policy to attack civilians. They therefore constitute crimes against humanity under international law. They may also constitute war crimes"

Here is a link to the full report.

It is worth mentioning that the report checked only the Palestinian terror attacks in the Intifada (starting September 2000). It totally ignores the terror attacks during the "peace" years (93-99) when more than 400 Israelis were killed in terror attacks (comparing to 0 (zero) Palestinians because Israel didn't retaliate at all!)

I must say that I waited 2 days before posting it in here because I wanted to see if anyone else does it (The report was published 2 days ago).

From the newspapers in Israel today I learned that the media in the US and EU decided to ignore that report (surprise surprise) and I guess that many of you didn't even hear about it.

I'm sure that many of you will jump and start talking about Israel action. This is not the point here. Many Amnesty reports were written about that. As I said at the start of this post, this is the first time that Amnesty checks the other side and the title says it all.

I can see the hyocritical statements forming at the fingertips of the THI members right now! Can't wait till I get home from work to read this one.

The Amnesty report is right - two wrongs never make a right. Amnesty has been saying for the last few decades that the Israelis have been committing crimes against humanity/abusing human rights - but of course until this report they have always decried the validity of such reports, as Avi correctly says.
