i'm liberal, democrat or whatever, but with what he's been delt (Sept. 11th and whatnot) Bush is doing a good job, and I like him.

Mind you, i'm only 15 and can't vote, so my opinion doesn't really matter.

Funny, after the Gulf war many folks in your region named their kids after his Father.

Now he's a villian, why because our country was attacked by Islamic militants?.

OK...how many more posts before this becomes a liberal vs. conservative war?  Big grin

I can't stand the man. I think he's an idiot, and his policies leave much to be desired. Getting us into a war is no mark of a good president. I think after his administration is over, there will be a HUGE mess to clean up.

I don't agree with much of his domestic agenda. Since Sept 11th, I do think he's done a good job under remarkably difficult circumstances-maybe the most difficult any U.S. president since Franklin Roosevelt. As for George W. Bush the man, I have nothing against him. I don't think he's anywhere near as bright or as smart as his predecessor, but he certianly has a better moral compass than his predecessor, that's for sure.

Having said all that, being a lifelong Democrat, I couldn't tell you if I'd vote for him in 2004. If he dumps extremists like Ashcroft from his government, I think I might.

I beg your pardon, Ilyushin86M, but exactly how did HE get is into this war? Seems to me you're confusing him with one Osama bin Laden. Maybe you hate his guts, partner, but get your facts straight before typing.

Bush is doing a swell job. I voted for the guy and I don't see too many reason's why I wouln't vote for him again.
I just wish he would shake the far right-wing of his party off.

Well, this is hardly the forum for discussion of such an explicit topic, with a significant number of younger participants, but... yeah, I really do!

I'm tolerably happy with the President, too.

It's funny how a lot of muslims are calling for his head when the American Muslim Council endorsed the man in 2000.

I don't agree with many of "his" foreign and domestic policies, myself. The steel tariffs and the farm bill were just plain stupid. Plus, I think "he" should do whatever it takes, even if it means changing the way "he" approaches certain foreign issues, to prevent another terroist attack. I say "his" because I don't think he's really in charge. If you want to hang someone, look no further than the second in command.

On the other hand, my friend was working on the security detail at the G-8 summit in Calgary. In the end, they go to meet all the leaders. Out of all of them, Bush was the only one who gave him a firm handshake and actually talk to him for few minutes (he called my friend back after he walked away) and he genuinely seemed interested. That wasn't the case with any of the other leaders, including his own, Jean Cretien. It's those little things that sometimes make a world of difference. And hey, I'm for a military raise and lower taxes any day!  Big thumbs up

Anything has to be better than Clinton. Well Clinton did one good thing......he left office. Its to bad all of the troubles of the clinton administration are getting dumped on him and the press (except fox) tries to make him look bad. I like his SUn Tzu approach, get on the battle ground first so you can be at ease........we need that kind of approach after 9/11.

But seriously. I have great respect for the man. He was a fighter pilot and understands the plight of our military and is working to correct it. He thinks logically even if he does choke on a few snacks now and then. He doesnt whine when he doesnt get his way and he's very level-headed. Despite of all the liberal propoganda i think he's an intelligent person and will always do what's best for the nation and it's allies.

I don't like him. Gore would have been the legitimate president, but some Florida cheaters have worked hard to let him lose.

It's clear Sept.11th helped Bush to overcome his dirty victory, but I guess after an event like Sept.11th, any guy on top of state would have become the country's most popular president.

I don't like his black and white view of the world. The "axis of evil" is the best proof for his limited view. We all know that not only these three goverments have dirt on their fingers. But we also know that a government never represents the whole population, especially in countries led by doubtful regimes. What about the opposition movements in Iran? I guess their situation did not become better with Bush's helpful speech...

Al, do it again!

President Bush is a man of integrity with an intellect that is entirely underrated by his detractors. He is an executive who can cut through B.S. and stick with themes that win. I am troubled by some members of his administration (notably Ashcroft and Rove). But the Bush White House has at times shown some smart pragmatism and flexibility. No one can deny that Rice and Powell are strong advisors. Rumy is just what we need at DoD. And the President's approval rating remains at 72%, despite the recent WorldCom and Enron debacles.

Gore is more legit as the inventor of the internet then he would have been as the president.

Bush is doing ok.

He inherited many problems with the economy from the recession that everybody forgets started in the last six month of the Clinton regieme. A lot of the accouting problems that are comming to light right now date several years prior to the election also.

A lot of people overseas who where used to running roughshod over the US have now gotten a rude awakening and are complaining about that. It will die down.

God bless the USA!!!

Gore would have been the legitimate president, but some Florida cheaters have worked hard to let him lose.

Here we go again. Name a single credible count of those famous Florida votes that showed Gore to be the winner. The NORC recount, sponsored by the media and which included a full recount without time pressure (they took a year to do it), and published in November of 2001 confirmed that Bush won by 537 votes.

http://www.norc.uchicago.edu/fl/results/media/cert_results.zip

I don't like his black and white view of the world. The "axis of evil" is the best proof for his limited view.

You are free to have that opinion, but I am sure that, more than anyone alive, the man in the oval office knows perfectly well that everything is NOT black and white. He is privy to the best intelligence obtainable by hundreds of thousands of people on the government payroll, as well as information provided by other countries. He has to balance concerns about international relations with virtually every country in the world, each of which will have at least 50 possible solutions provided and recommended by advisors, analysts and other "experts", out of which he must choose the course best suited to the interests of the USA. Much of the information these positions are based on come from sources that cannot be revealed, for fear of losing that source.

Again, you are free to call his decisions simplistic or otherwise. I myself disagree with a number of stands he has taken, especially concerning farming subsidies and import tariffs. But don't even think that he has not absorbed 50 times the information you have seen about a particular subject, and has taken all that information into account in his decisions.

He gets high marks for very difficult decisions after 9/11. But the same crap I couldn't stand about him before that ugly Tuesday last year still exists today.

He comes across as this likable country oaf who's literally too down to earth and simple to get into any nasty moral dillemas, but one scan of some of his past business interests...Harken, the Rangers 'eminent domain' land debacle... reveals he's just as murky as the rest of the "end justifies the means"-ers in his 'inner circle'. I for one am not inclined to lump the guy's intellect into the Happy Meal category like so many liberal outlets...I think he's every bit as smart and politically cunning as his predecessor was.

Boils down to this....Bill Clinton was a bad liar who held a tight leash over his personal decision making. Dubya's almost a figurehead in an Administration run by very very good liars for whom spin and propaganda is an art form.

I'll take a bad liar over a good one anyday.

I like Bush.
I don´t think he is stupid or whatever.

I mean - he studied in Yale and Harvard, he has been a supersonic fighter pilot in the USAF reserve, he has been a manager etc. -> what more do you want?
How good has a head of state to be?

Look at other presidents. I don´t see a Nobel-Prize-for-Physics-Recipient with a body like Schwarzenegger who has been an astronaut as well as a social worker in ethiopia. There is simply no such All-in-wonder-guy anywhere......

The oval office doesn't provide anyone with omniscient knowledge. And I wouldn't be too convinced of the reliability of the US intelligence services...Sept.11th has shown that having the largest and best financed intelligence services does not mean that much...

I would be very careful in believing that the US president or any other "superior" institution knows exactly what's right and wrong anywhere on the world.
Just because Bush is against any environment protection it doesn't mean our globe is healthy...

That belief of superiority of some Americans can also be called arrogance. And that's one of the reason why many people around the world dislike the US.
Don't get that wrong, I still love that country for many reasons, but I just want to show you how many people outside the US think.

Udo,

I never said anything about omniscience, of the president or of intelligence services. But they do have at their fingertips more information than anyone else on this planet. Just because they didn't see 9/11 coming doesn't mean they are as underinformed as the unwashed masses about a host of other issues.

Just because Bush is against any environment protection it doesn't mean our globe is healthy...

Now this statement is black and white. Because Bush doesn't agree with you in regard to environmental issues, he is against any environmental protection whatsoever, now that's arrogance! Or as we say here, "it's my my or the highway".

That belief of superiority of some Americans can also be called arrogance. And that's one of the reason why many people around the world dislike the US.

Actually from what I read here, the belief of superiority is alive and well, only it's not coming from the U.S. Those who continually rail against American arrogance and self proclaimed superiority are actually showing their own thinly veiled arrogance and aura of superiority.
