That site is excellent.
How many people do have experience at sleeping in airports, train stations, parks, streets and whatever bizarre places. It would be interesting to see how adventurous we at A.net are!

I've only slept at one airport that I remember, Manchester International in June 1998. The reason was that I had missed the last train home and it was more comfortable than sleeping at Manchester Picadilly train station.

I've slept in loads of train stations and once slept on a bench by the Thames-near Westminster tube station.

This was all years ago though, I haven't 'slept out' for ages.

That is a very informative site. Not in the least bit surprised by the number of reports about Logan Airport. Nor was I shocked by the ones for ATL (since I saw many a traveler forced into an overnighter at ATL.

No they are not comfortable, but they are sometimes more comfortable than the aircraft!

During the real cold Winter nights I would see homeless folks sleeping in the Terminals at EWR, they were always clean and had duffle bags so they looked like travelers.

Except I would see the same people every time the tempature at night would drop into the teens or lower, I think the PA cops had an unwritten rule to look the other way on dangerously cold nights.

It's a shame that after 9-11 you can't go into Terminal's concourses without tickets, and that lying around other parts of the Terminal with bags is not allowed under stricter security scrutiny. And like I said they never bothered anyone, they just wanted to sleep someplace warm where they didn't have to worry about getting knifed.

(before 9-11) I've seen homeless folks at EWR, PHL and DCA, probably very common (pre 9-11) at most airports near major cities.

Check out the stories about Port Moresby in Papau New Guinea. One in particular really takes the cake.

What stories are they? I've been through POM a number of times-but sleeping there is one thing I would never consider doing no matter what the circumstances. It's not like it's a busy airport or anything.

Here is the direct quote from the site:

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (Contributed by ?)
This listing has been listed as a contribution of the Month
"I can only imagine that this place was safer when the Americans and Japanese were bombing it in world war two. never mind the lack of places to sleep, terrible food prepared by halfwits and eaten by roaches and mossies before you get to it, toilets that make the 'black hole of Calcutta' look like the Ritz. I could handle that. What I couldn't handle was the shoot-out which happened in the terminal between the cops and a local gang which resulted in 3 dead youths, 1 dead cop and 2 dead airport workers who happened to be standing 10 metres from me. After that I just got on the next flight out no matter where it was going. avoid at all costs."

There is also a story about people getting mugged and robbed on the tarmac at Lagos (LOS) between the gate and the plane, and a few stories of muggings in the terminal! Can anyone confirm this or similar and what the airport in Lagos is really like this seems so hard to believe.

Some of the information is inaccurate.

Unfortunatly C concourse at ANC was demolished two years ago to make room for the terminal expansion. So the display of animal mounts is no longer there.

It was a great place to crash out though.

Has the first of your three pics been taken at HNL? Had to wait there around 1 hrs until they opened the terminal when I took the CS Island Hopper for GUM ...

I've slept in MIA... dreadfull experiance. We got off the MD80 and had to wait the night till our ATR42 left to the Bahamass. There is little to do in MIA at night but ride the train and watch the planes.... but it is dark and they are hard to see.

It's hard to tell but I'm hoping that the Port Moresby reports were from before the new terminal building was opened. I know my Mum and Dad witnessed a shootout in the supermarket a couple of years ago so the report of gunfire outside the terminal is most likely to be accurate.
