Canadian Government Abbreviations

Sat Aug 03, 2002 6:58 am

I was reading a copy of the Vancouver Sun today and saw two abbreviations I keep meaning to find out about. What is MP and what is MLA? Thank you!

MLA = Member of the Legislative Assembly (most provinces)

Equivalents:
MPP = Member of Provincial Parliament (Ontario)
MNA = Member of the National Assembly (Quebec)
MHA = Member of the House of Assembly (one of the East Coast provinces)
