The German "TV Duel"

Sat Aug 24, 2002 8:22 pm

What do you expect from the Schröder vs. Stoiber duel on sunday ? Will you watch it ?

I think the duel will be a success for Schröder, he simply is closer to the public than Edi is. And with the rising poll results and his management of the flood catastrophy, he'll already start with an advantage and I'm sure he knows how to use this advantage.

Mach ihn rein, Gerd!  Big thumbs up

For the record (already posted this in the "flooding" thread): I won´t watch the duels because I don´t see any added value for me and my decision-making. It´s another step towards an overhyped American-style media "landscape" in which contents count less than the way thery´re presented.

I agree with Airsicknessbag on this one.
In Germany there is absolutely no need for such an overrated TV-duel.
Don´t forget that, in contrast to the president´s electionin the USA, we don´t elect the president directly (in this case it´s the chancellor) but the composition of the geman parliament, the Bundestag.
So I think that a direct discussion lead by the candidates which can be followed by the public does have more sense in America.

I definitely will not watch this ridiculous piece of begging for voters, because I´ve already made my decision which can neither be changed by a huge load of gossip this evening nor by that disgustingly simulated compassion showed by some politicians during the flood desaster.

Daniel and Daniel: That´s my opinion, too!! It´s lot of media bullshit. I made my decision already, and will make my cross next week (Briefwahl). And that´s one sad thing in the whole flood supportism: Three parties for the moment (except the party of the "yellow sandbag fallin´from the sky"  Smile/happy/getting dizzy ) are using the situation in Sachsen etc. for their PR. That´s disgusting and I hope, the affected people will recognize, why Schroeder, Stoiber, Fischer, and so on have been there.

Schönen Sonnabend noch!

I will watch it but I have already made my decision.

Btw: I think that Schröder will be the winner tomorrow night because everyone will recognize that Adolf Stoiber`s program is completely nonsense.

I'm really looking forward to see it tomorrow. But I'm pretty sure that I've also already made my decision.

I've already made my decision a couple of months ago. However, I will watch the "duel" with some friends - but we're not taking it as a serious political debate, but more from an entertainment standpoint.  Wow!
A certain someone from Bavaria might get some serious rethorical a$$kicking...  Big thumbs up

As all others said before, I made my decision months ago, but I will watch the duel and hope that Schröder will outclass Stoiber, as experts say that the duels could have an influence of up to 3-4% in the election - and every vote against Stoiber is a good vote  Smile

I have not made my decision yet, I haven´t even decided whether to vote at all. "Pest und Cholera" sach ich nur... But me too I´ll vote next week via letter (I´ve never ever seen a voting booth´s inside so far, and it´s going to stay that way Big grin ), and then I can happily ignore all that "Wahlk(r)ampf"
