Saudi Royals Say No Saudis On UA/AA Planes On 9/11

Thu Aug 29, 2002 3:26 am

(this message was posted in the wrong forum and is being reposted here)

----------------------------------------------------------------

This is really unbelievable. The Saudi royals still believe this? This is such an insult to those of us who lost friends on the UA and AA planes that were hijacked.

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/world/1551255

from the Houston Chronicle article:

"He turned out to be a royal family member named Adnan al-Fadda. Then, after indignantly knocking down the gossip in Marbella about Saudi men and blonde escorts for hire, he turned to Sept. 11.

It had nothing to do with the political situation in Saudi Arabia, he said. He refused to believe that any of the hijackers were Saudi citizens, and maintained the attacks were an Israeli-CIA plot.

"Do you know how many Jews in the World Trade Center didn't go to work that day?" he said, repeating a conspiracy theory rampant in the Arab world. "

other parts of the article:

"Mena added that last year the Saudis went to a Cartier jewelry shop "and spent more than 60 million euros in a single day." A euro is roughly a dollar.

The Saudi men seem to have more fun. The women wear veils and waterproof robes, even on Marbella's topless beaches. A woman riding a Jet Ski while covered head-to-toe in a black robe is not an uncommon sight.

But after Friday prayers were over at the Abdulaziz al-Saud mosque, Sarah al-Kabbani tore off her garment and wove her way on foot through a traffic jam of Mercedes sedans back to the Puente Romano, where suites cost $1,270 a night.

The guy is probably a distant cousin of the royal family (which numbers in the thousands). But it is true that a huge part of the Arab world believe the rumours that 9/11 was an Israeli plot.

Morons.

Dude, come on. This is old news. Nothing happened on 9/11. He's right, it's all a Jewish conspiracy. In fact, the Pentagon doesn't even exist! How's that for proof! Just ask some of the members on this board. They can answer once they stop giving this guy head.

While it is disturbing, the amount of money blown I think that you are exagerating with your title. "Saudi Royals Say No Saudis On UA/AA Planes On 9/11". First of all saying Royals means it is more than one person, second of all that person is not a member of the Royal Family and I don't why the reporter said so. In reality the title should be "Saudi person says hijackers were not Saudi.

The conspiracy was very rampant after Sept. 11 and originated mainly from the Egyptian press and many people, especially the uneducated adhered to that view but most believe it is Osama bin Laden and many newspapers later published articles to show that this conspiracy is wrong. Al-Jazeera also had a program to dispel the many conspiracy theories.

Qatar, you're the one that incessantly reminds us the Saudi royal family numbers in the thousands! What, you got a database there? How do you know he isn't a royal? Is it possible one of them just mat have said something like this? Is it possible one of them may actually believe something like this?

Secondly regarding the 'Israeli/CIA' plot you just said the "uneducated adhered to that view"...based on polls I've seen from both Arab and non-Arab websites, that's a majority of the Arab world and a VAST majority of Saudis.

If the country is THAT "uneducated"...maybe they need to 'fire' the royals ruling things.

Hmmm. The only thing that comes to mind is denial. Or maybe they are looking a a very specific trait-origin, where calling anyone 'Saudi'* is too general.

" He refused to believe that any of the hijackers were Saudi citizens"

That would make sense only when considering that the Muslim religion does not use violence to get at the objective of life. Like I said, denial; maybe most Saudi's cannot comprehend the idea that there are "extreme people" within their own organizations that are willing to re-interpret holy words to 'advocate for death to others'. We can recognize the idea of 'misguided Americans’; they cannot since they do not have the freedoms that we do.

That makes sense to me, I honestly feel that ALL Americans and Saudi Arabians do not hate each others guts; it is just that each others' loud minority gets the attention.

* On a side note, remember that that region of the Middle East is run by a bunch of egotists, the name Saudi comes from the name of the whoever is in charge. If President Bush took over, then we would have to call it "Bush Arabia".

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, I meant that a majority of people adhered to this view after the attack since they could never digest the fact that Osama bin Laden who is viewed as a hero by some people can do such an attrocity against civilians, they are or were in denial. Nowadays mainly the uneducated hold on to this view today. By uneducated I don't mean someone who doesn't have a university degree but someone who isn't educated enough to form their own opinions.

As I said above most people know in their hearts that Al-Qaeda is responsible but they subscribe to conspiracy theories as a form of denial. Denial is a major problem here, if a person can't find a job because he/she are unskilled they say "The government officials are taking all the money away from the ministries that they can no longer employ me" or if a person's son or daughter doesn't graduate from school "The government hasn't invested enough money in the school for my son/daughter to get a full education".

Most people can't contiplate that a person viewed as a hero by some people for his actions against the soviets and for not being afraid to stand up infront of America unlike many of their leaders can commit such an attrocious act against innocent civilians, so denial sets in place. Theories included everything from the Japanese Red Army to Right-Wing American Militias responsable for the attacks.

There are a lot of people who still hold this view but most people have gotten over that. Conspiracy theories in the Arab world spread like wild-fire mainly through tabloids, TV stations like ANN and talk in the coffee houses etc...

"Qatar, you're the one that incessantly reminds us the Saudi royal family numbers in the thousands! What, you got a database there?"

No, I could tell by his last name.

"Is it possible one of them just mat have said something like this?" - YES

"Is it possible one of them may actually believe something like this?" - YES

Lehpron sorry I didn't look at your post before replying. You hit the nail right on the head it is denial. The only people who truly believe this are the uneducated.

Very upsetting article, but confirms by thoughts of these digusting Saudi royals.

This horrendous aritlce underscores one thing, and one thing alone. The US NEEDS to END ITS DEPENDENCE ON SAUDI OIL NOW.

Why?

Because politics in in countries dependent on oil become totally focused on who controls the oil revenues — rather than on how to improve the skills and education of both their men and women, how to build a rule of law and a legitimate state in which people feel some ownership, and how to build an honest economy that is open and attractive to investors.

In short, countries with oil can flourish under repression — as long as they just drill a hole in the right place. Think of Saudi Arabia, Libya or Iraq. Countries without oil can flourish only if they drill their own people's minds and unlock their energies with the keys of freedom. Think of Japan, Taiwan or India.

QatarAirways: Do you think Saudi Arabia would be able to keep most of its women unemployed and behind veils if it didn't have petrodollars to replace their energies?

Do you think it is an accident that the most open and democratizing Arab countries — Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, Dubai and Qatar — are those with either no oil or dwindling oil reserves? They've had to learn how to tap the talents of their people rather than their sand dunes.

The Saudi ruling family stays in power not by a democratic vote but by a bargain with the conservative Wahhabi Muslim religious establishment. The Wahhabi clerics bless the regime and give it legitimacy — in the absence of any democratic elections. In return, the regime gives the Wahhabis oil money, which they use to propagate a puritanical version of Islam that is hostile to the West, to women, to modernity and to all non-Muslim faiths.

This bargain suits the Saudi rulers well. If the Royal Family empowered the secularized, pro-American Saudis, and not the Wahhabi clerics, it would not be long before they demanded things like transparency in budgeting, accountability and representation. The Wahhabi religious establishment, by contrast, doesn't care how corrupt the ruling family is in private — as long it keeps paying off the clerics and gives them a free hand to impose Wahhabi dogma on Saudi society, media and education, and to export it abroad.

Many on here question US support for Israel, citing a 30 year old military blunder. The real question is US support for Saudi, a country that gives huge oil resources to the Wahhabi conservatives, which they use to build mosques and schools that preach against tolerance, pluralism and modernity across the Muslim world — and in America. And it is our oil addiction that keeps us from ever confronting the Saudis on this. Addicts never tell the truth to their pushers.

Welcome back TNNH,

I would like to make one thing clear. Wahabism isn't as it is portrayed to you in the west. I am a Wahabi and certainly our interpritations of the teachings of Islam aren't like this "puritanical version of Islam that is hostile to the West, to women, to modernity and to all non-Muslim faiths." - "Wahhabi conservatives, which they use to build mosques and schools that preach against tolerance, pluralism and modernity across the Muslim world". Qatar and the UAE are both Wahabi states and as you see we are modernizing and democratizing. If you want me to explain the Wahabi teachings to you I will email you.

"Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, Dubai and Qatar — are those with either no oil or dwindling oil reserves?"

Jordan, Bahrain and Qatar have all had recent major discoveries in oil and gas reserves. In the past five years proven recoverable oil reserves in Qatar have increased from 3.7B barrells to 10B barrells, Qatar also has the largest natural gas feild in the world and the third largest NG reserves in the world recent discoveries by British Petroleum have found the feild to be 50% larger than what was previously discovered making Qatar jump to second place. I don't really see a link with oil and modernization. Saudi Arabia's problems lie deeper than that although oil is an element of the problems it is not the only source of it.

There is an old saying. If more than two people know something, it will leak. Just look at history, Teapot Dome leaked, Whitewater leaked, Iran-Contra leaked, etc. etc. And so far, not *one* of these jews has mentioned anything. That makes me think that this is one conspiracy theory which has no basis in reality.

"they haven't leaked anything, because they're dead."

Are you impling that the Jewish folks in the WTC knew of the attack a yet did not do anything to stop it? Because they are dead?! I think you should reverse that idea real quick, because it sounds like a worse off conspiracy that people here make.

I think you and most others have something in common here, you are both gullible to the extent that it appears to be a general consensus.

haha, relax there leh.

nutsy was postulating as to whether Jews were accomplises to the 9/11 terror, and I tongue in cheek reminded him they most certainly were not, because a great deal of them lie murdered on the hallowed plot that is Ground Zero.

Leh, if these so called "jewish conspirators" lie murdered in NYC, do you think "Jewish folks in the WTC knew of the attack a yet did not do anything to stop it"?? Probably not pal.

Understand now?
