Motorola V60 And Nokia Cell Phone

Wed Sep 04, 2002 10:53 am

I am going to be getting a cell phone in a few weeks for my birthday. My mom has already said so, so that's how I'm pretty sure I will be. Now, I want a cool phone. It would not be to show off because I can't stand show offs, I just want a cool phone, for my own personal satisfaction/enjoyment. That might sound weird or materialistic, but I can't exactly explain my thinking, you'll just have to know what I mean. There are two phones I really want. One is the Motorola V60. Here it is:

The other is the Nokia 8265. Here it is:

The problem is that the cheapest I can find the Motorola is for $200.00 with an AT&T service plan. AT&T is expensive, but my mom got a really good offer in the mail from them, so that is my only chance of going with them. Otherwise there isn't even a possibility for the Motorola. The Nokia is $150 with all service providers, but I can get a $50 rebate with some service providers for it, bringing it to $100.00. I would have to put in money on both of these phones if I wanted to get them. My parents will probably put in $50-100 for the phone, so that leaves the rest for me. How are these two phones? Is the Motorola worth that much of my money? I have some generous relatives, so I will probably have the money, the question is just if I want to spend it on that. I don't want to sound spoiled either; I don't expect anything from my relatives, but they usually do give me money for my birthday. Anyway, thank you so much for your help!

Go for the Nokia. The Motorola is sweet, don't get me wrong but although it's tiny, it's also fairly thick (depth wise) when closed. The Nokia is small and they are always easy to use and navigate. It's also less expensive. I, myself, am considering upgrading to the 8265 (I get that $50 rebate you're talking about from Cingular).

My vote goes to Nokia.

I have the Motorola V60. Everyone, including myself, like the look. It doesn't however have any games popular with Nokias. You can get the V60 with AT&T for $99.00 from buy.com. Here is the link.

If you print out the page and take it to your local AT&T store, they might be able to match it for you. My local store did that for me. I find AT&T service to be pretty good here in New Jersey.

Thank you SO much for that link BizJets! Thanks for your insight as well American_4275. The games are not a big deal to me because I stink at them and am not really interested in getting better at them. This phone is more to talk on, not to play on. I just want something really cool. How is the reception on both phones? I know the service has a lot to do with that, but if the phone has anything as well, then I would like to know. Again, thank you both so much!

I love my V60...you can make your own ring tones (I have to because Verizon doesn't let them be sent) using RTTTL and then translating it by Uniring. But knock on wood, it's the best phone I've had. I dropped it once in the rain on the brick from a couple of feet, and it still works perfectly. V60 all the way!  Smile Good luck and happy birthday!

Based on my limited experience with Motorola (thank God) and feed back from others, the Motorola's menus aren't as user friendly. It'll take some getting used to... Painfully so, too.
In addition to simplicity and more bang for your buck, use the Nokia once in the night and the choice will be clear (no pun intended) - Nokia all the way.
Nevermind political correctness - Envision using your turn signals!

Thank you all for your feedback! I really appreciate it!

I would like to send a special thanks to you, BizJets. You don't know how appreciative I am about you sending me the link for that offer for the V60. My mom was able to get out during work today while I was at school and go to the AT&T store and see if they would match the price, and they decided that they would! It saves me a ton of money to get it at that price! I'm going to buy the V60. I'm really happy that I can afford it. Again, thank you so very much!  Smile

No problem Airplanetire!  Big thumbs up

Although, AT&T might be tracking me down now as I have suggested that option to about 10 people who have gotten them to match the price. Big grin Big grin  Nuts

Agree about the Nokia... I have a Nokia 8260 for my US phone, and Nokia 8850 for my Taiwan phone. they are much more sleeker, lighter and have a much nicer menu interface than the Motorola. And of course, cooler ringtones! Making cell phones is what Nokia does primarily, unlike Motorola who make tons of other stuff, so you figure they'd have the chance to really refine it.
