Why Telemarketer Kept Calling?

Mon Sep 09, 2002 9:21 am

I have noticed every single day about 3 to 5 times a day. I have caller ID shows "Unknown caller" I refused to answer the phone. I have set 4 rings until fax machine on. Why can't telemarketer figure it out is it a fax machine? Why telemarketer kept calling stupid same my phone number again and again with fax is on? How could I stop them or tell them not to call me again?

If you live in Colorado you can add your phone number to a "no call" list. It has stopped alot of the telemarketers from caling my house. A couple people are sueing the telemarketing companies that didn't comply with the new rules.

I suspect they call all residential numbers (555-5555, 555-5556, 555-5557, etc.)

The same thing happens to me...the answering machine will kick in and they'll start asking for someone....so I guess they are only patched into the line when it picks up (which the answering machine will after 4 rings)

But I hear most states are trying to get a 'don't call' list, which is a great thing. Now if they had an anti-spam list.....

Random dialing. The caller often cannot see the number they are calling.

The best response is to WASTE their time. If we all did that, telemarketing would quickly stop. Don't just hang up....they will just move quickly on to the next person.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Or, you can do what I do. Tell them that whomever they are asking for is dead. This is usually followed by a lot of spluttering down the line, a muffled "I'm sorry, I'll cross him off the list, my sympathies" and then they hang up.

Works for me.

Telemarketers were once seen as 'good sport' when calling our house. That lasted for about a year before we finally got sick and tired of 'em. Started paying for Call Blocking services which stops those without Caller ID from calling our number directly.

This worked like a champ until the marketing companies got wise and gave themselves innocuous-sounding caller identities. Now it's back to at least one incoming annoyance per night.
