Diego Forlan Scores A Goal At Last For Man Utd!

Thu Sep 19, 2002 6:55 am

Who cares if it was a penalty: you've got to start somewhere! Actually being a bit cruel to Diego Forlan there as his record is not as bad as it first appears! Yes, this was his 27th appearance but he's only played around 14 hours or so which equates to 9 and a bit full games.

Relatively comfortable for Man Utd, looking much smoother in midfield and attack with some interchanges and movements being to the highest standards that they can achieve. Not too sure about the defence still but the longer Ferdinand and Blanc play together, the better the understanding will become.

Haifa scoring was probably the worst thing they could have done as it seems to have shaped their tactics for the remainder of the game in allowing the Utd midfield to seize control and eke out chance after chance: without Dudu Amate in such good form, the score could have been very embarrassing (possibly beating Utd's record win against Anderlecht some 45 years ago tomorrow - 18th Sept 1957- which was Utd's 1st European game at Old Trafford)

Ha, ha EGFF...I'd be more worried if he wasn't getting involved! I have to admit that if I were a betting man and the bookies were open, I'd have placed a tenner on him missing the penalty.

Looks like Leverkusen's tactics for next week will be pretty simple: defend better than that! If they are going to be as generous to Man Utd, then there could be another hatful recorded.

I was soooo happy he managed to score. He must have had a hell of a lot of preassure berfore taking that penalty.  Smile

Pretty amazing round this week. 15 goals in Utd's group in one day.  Wow!

This is GREAT news. Even better though, Mike Piazza hit a 2 run homerun for the NY Mets last night that won the game!

He'll still be forever known as "Worse than Garry Birtles"!

Nobody could be worse than Garry Birtles during his time with Utd! I wonder if Utd could have sued Nottingham Forest under the Sales of Goods Act 1974 (I think) for "misrepresentation of a product".

Hope you saw that Man City fan Prof. Cary Cooper of one of the universities up here describes Forlan as "a class act" and that this goal should be the trigger for him to start scoring on a regular basis.

Forland has A red man utd shirt on, facing the camera as if it was a photo for his bus pass, He has a white background and seems very happy.

Sally is wearing a white top with sponsors, seems to be in a stadium of some sort, is holding up a Union Jack, appears to have short hair (perhaps slightly greyer/darker than Forland), and has a look on her face as if she is wondering wether or not she remembered to shave her armpits.

Actually David, I tend to agree with you; I think Forlan is a fine player. Interestingly, City bought his old strike partner Vuoso in the close season - the man who allegedly (i.e. no-one's seen it) created all the chances for him. He's just a kid too, it'll be interesting to see how he gets on.

Garry Birtles, though! He, he he...  Big grin
