I used to have a pair of great tassel loafers from Church's ... really comfortable, great without socks, wunnerful-wunnerful for flying. But the incessant snap-snap-snap as I walked started to drive me nuts, which may be why wearers have shorter fuses than the untassled masses. In other words, put yourself in the other guys shoes, and try and be sympathetic.

WHy is this in this forum, anyway?

Well ironminds, I can honestly tell you I never have, nor will I ever put on a pair of tassel shoes. I have talked with dozens of people who agree with me and I doubt that its the noise the shoe makes that drive them nuts. It is their attitude towards the flight crew and other passengers that somehow makes them feel inferior to not have to wait in line and but to the front(all you C/S people can back me up on this) upon check in. You put yourself in my shoes and see the way these guys act at the gate. You have the right to your own opinion and so do I. This is a column because its all in good fun.

My God, man, get a grip of yourself! We're talking about a man's choice in SHOE! And I, for one, was being facetious in my post - though I did own a pair once and the noise did get to me sometimes, even if I never was a prick to cabin crew or fellow passengers while wearing them.

Are men with tassle loafers more likely to be jerks? I dunno. Ask yourself if you'd be comfortable making other blanket statements, like men in yarmulkas more likely to be cheap or guys from Saudi Arabia more likely to be terrorists? Sometimes stereotypes are incorrect, sometimes they aren't. I just dunno.

Guys who wear tassle slip-on shoes are gay. End of discussion.

Yeah and they are always crying about their upgrades too. If they are wearing argyle socks with their tassel shoes, they are a lost cause.

I travel on business from time to time. I don't wear "tassel loafers," but only Mephisto from France. I do not complain about upgrades. And wearing shoes without socks is also gay.

Uh-oh, my wife and son will be horrified when she finds out my sockless-loafer habit is concealing the fact that I'm gayer than Frank Rich!

Not wearing socks is not gay. Having sex with other men is gay. End of story.

tassels=cheese. Save them for the disco; nothing is more professional than a pair of plain black shoes, period (causal office or not).

Ironmind does have a point there about the whole having sex with men (if you are a man) makes you gay. But the TASSLE shoes just make you GAYE. I agree with the comments on the tassel shows. I drive towncar/limos so Im usually the 1st person they see. And I can verify.....that just about 99.998% of the time they are POMPUS ARROGANT JERKS who tip 1dollar for a 90dollar bil. OH opps....do I sound bitter? LOL. I actually love my job....but these guys are just to funny sometimes. If you can take yourself out of being you and emotionally involved these guys are quite interesting to watch.

I have to defend some of them though. Usually the most pompus ones....are the ones that are quite depressed, and sad. Usually flying weekly or almost daily. They get pretty depressed not seeing their families for weeks/months at a time. I had one guy get pretty emotional one time while he was on the phone with his wife. I picked him up at home on a Monday/ then picked up back up at the airport on thur. Then on Friday morning I drove him up to LAX for another 3weeks trip. Not exactly what he wants to be doing when he could be spending time with his wife and kids. Some guys you can cut some slack too. Just thought I would add another view point. Im supposed to have deaf ears at work....but people end up spilling their guts.
