How Much Is A Human Life Worth?

Tue Sep 24, 2002 7:00 am

I know there are some people here who think that you cannot put a price on the life of a human being, or that everyone is worth the same.

In a perfect world, that would be great.

But in the real world, not all people are created equal, nor are they worth the same. Whether you realize it or not, whether you want to admit it or not, each and every last one of us has a very specific dollar amount that we are worth to the government and/or insurance industry.

So my question to you is just as the topic says:

"What is a life worth?"

What are the criteria? I've heard that there are great disparities in what the US Government are paying out to the kin of September 11 victims. I realize that a big part of it is how much Life Insurance that a person carries.

What about the "unspoken" or "unwritten" factors?

How do the following get factored in when their worth is being determined by bean counters behind closed doors?

Occupation
Age
Gender
Marital Status
Bank account/asset net worth
Physical attractiveness
Ethnicity
Number of dependents
Place of residence
Overall health
Number of friends

Thank you for your input.

All humans are worth the same; a big fat zippo.
Yep, we're worthless pieces of meat gunking up a perfectly good planet.

Wow Jessman, that's a pretty strong opinion. Why do you think that?

Sometimes I like to throw out something from left field, even if I really completely disagree. Sort of like when MattD created Leopold, and whoever was hairyass was around. However I don't go to such lengths as make a new user name, I just post it under mine and see where it gets me.

I believe most humans have an inherent multiplicity, or at least the ability to see things from multiple points of view, such as a purely selfish point of view, or a point of view that encompasses the greater good. Sometimes the reference can be short term or long term.

A couple of posts to explain my multiple world views follow

So the real me is somewhere between a heartless sociopath, and a loving person trying to be like a perfect God.

It's sorta bleak, but Jessman's stated opinion is one way to look at it.

Life's worth whatever you make of it.

Doesn't really fit in here but I think if you would buy the ingredients to build a human you would need about 5 US$ or so. Of course it doesn't work like that though  Big thumbs up

Well, if it's negligence, the value of the a life depends on the skill of your lawyer.
You think I'm kidding, but I'm not.

Godbless..didn't the price actually go up towards 8 or 9 bucks in the last five years?

From the stuff his body is made of even Bill Gates is really cheap, since his body is nothing else than every other body... The value of him comes from his mind...

Every human LIFE is worth the same amount and depriving some one of life is wrong for whatever reason. I don't care what this person is, has done, will do, wants to do, says..........
