The Worst Song Ever Recorded

Thu Oct 03, 2002 1:57 am

What do you think is the absolutely worst song that has ever been recorded? I'm talking about something truly abominable, where not only every copy, but the master tape as well should be burned-and the singer have his/her voice box taken out as well.

Here are my suggestions:

"Kung Fu Fighting" Karl Douglas
"Achy, Breaky Heart" Billy Ray Cyrus
"Let's Make The Water Turn Black" Frank Zappa
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" Elton John/Kiki Dee
"Rhinestone Cowboy" Glen Campbell
"A Horse With No Name" America
"Mmm-Bop" Hanson
"Honkey Cat" Elton John

Trite, self-congratulatory lyrics sung by a one-hit wonder.

International: Without You by Mariah Carey

UK specific: 7 Tears by the Goom Bay Dance Band (I think). I hope to goodness that wasn't inflicted on ears around the world

Actually, most cover versions are terrible adding nothing to the "best" version; there's a glut of cover versions in the UK charts and can honestly say that they are all a waste of time and money!

The damn American Idol song by Kelly Clarkson. She's hot but the song sucks. Every time I turn on the radio it's on. If I knew how to put in that face that pukes, I would put it in here now.

-"Who Let The Dogs Out"- definitely the worst...
-Britney Spears' "Lucky" is awful.
-Mmm-bop (or anything else by Hanson)
-Don't know who sings it, but it part of it is:
"One way, or another, I'm gonna find you, I'm gonna get 'cha, get 'cha, get 'cha", etc. It was in "Coyote Ugly" & is in a commercial now.

I'll have more, I'm sure...

Anne Lennox "No more I-love-you's"
Anastacia "Paid my dues"
Ronan Keating "When you say nothing at all"

Btw, I don't think that NKOTB songs were *that* bad. But then again, I must have been eight or nine years old when they broke up, and they don't play their songs in the radio any more, so maybe I just don't really know their songs.

Anything by any of those crappy teen bands like Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, etc., and all of that RAP CRAP.

Also, Matt D, "A Horse With No Name" is a good song  Smile

Rap Crap?  Sleepy

And how can "A Horse With No Name" suck?

There are so many terrible songs out there. Impossible to name just one 100 of them, much less 1.

And how can "A Horse With No Name" suck?

Well let's take some of the lyrics:

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
Cuz it felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert...you can't remember your name
laaa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-laaaa

Granted, it's not as bad as "Desolation Row" by Bob Dylan, but still...

Speaking of meaningless song lyrics, how about the following:

"Can't Get You Out Of My Head" (Kylie Minologue sp?)

"La-la-la la-la-la-la-la-la la la la-la-la la-la
Can't get you out of my head
La-la-la la-la-la-la-la-la la la la-la-la la-la"

I mean is that a song that she wrote while changing out her tampon or something? How long did it take to come up with those incredibly talented, clever, and original lyrics? Perhaps as long as 20 seconds?

And the scary thing is that it was A HIT!!!!!

Another classic is "Got My Mind Set On You" By George Harrison.

I guess those drugs he took while he was a Beatle finally caught up to him:

"I got my mind set on you
I got my mind set on you
But it's gonna take money
A whole lot of spending money
To do it right
To do it to do it to do it to do it"

Remember, just because you don't like a particular style of music, does not mean that the songs suck. I hate country music, but that does not mean I think there songs suck. You have to be objective.

Matt D. I can't agree with you more on the Kylie song. Amazing how it was so popular, especially with the que errrrrrrrrrr anyway, and the lyrics would appear to have been written by a 4 year old.

"Seventeen" by Winger.
"Wildfire" by some schmuck
"Blue Skies" Tori Amos (sets my teeth on edge)
"Crash" by Dave Matthews (Tired of his braying)
"Fire on the Mountain" by the Grateful Dead
Just about any nu-metal song. They're too similar to single out a worst offender
"Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney, inexplicably covered by Guns N' Roses
"Wind Beneath My Wings" Bette Middler (Wind Beneath My Ass)
"Sympathy is something that shouldn't be bestowed on the Yankees. Apparently it angers them." - Bob Feller

Im not a girl but Im not a woman by Brittney. What exactly is she?? a whore on sunset blvd???

Anything by the Indigo girls, Natalie Merchant and all the other "gurlz" (all of it sounds like sound tracks for women's sanitary product commercials)

Alanis Morrisette-Pop tart left over from the 80's reinvents herself as an angry woman with problems. Would someone please pour cement down her throat! Way too much shreiking and screeching.

Shakira-proof that lo-riders, a belly button ring and a "snarl" are no substitute for "talent"

Anything from Bobby Brown (repititive lyrics)

anyhting from Enema M- I've got my own problems so I don't need to hear about hiz!

P. Doody-sick of the attitude, velour jumpsuits, fur coats, homie chromies and hoochie girls. No your not for real...real sell-out maybe. You cant be partying in the Hamptons with Martha and the expect to be "down wit' da crew".

Pia Zadora-Talentless sexpot covered with Velveeta (among other things)

Faith Hill, Leann Womack, Leann Rhimes, Lonestar and all the other Nash-vegas sellouts.

Michael Jackson-"...As long as your my baby doesn't matter if you're white or white..."

Jeez, you guys really hate Hanson don't you? I thought they had some great pop singles, not enough to listen to it at home but they never bothered me. (Btw the answer is TRANSEXUALS.) And Ual777contrail, you are an arsehole. Rush rule baby. Get with the program.

Oh yeah, I think the worst song ever is anything Pete Waterman has ever had any involvement in (except You Spin Me Round by Dead Or Alive - that was groovy).

Wonder if something's wrong with me if two of my favorite songs are, according to LHMark, the worst ever recorded:
"Seventeen" by Winger.
"Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney, inexplicably covered by Guns N' Roses.

AirT85: why do you hate Eminem so much? Listen, I absolutely despise rap music; everything except for him. I think his lyrics are hilarious, and he is the best known advocate for the continuation of free speech and against censorship.

Back to the topic:
Anything by Disturbed, Moby, or the band that does "Chop Suey" and "Aerials"

Adding to my previous list....
-"Butterfly" was stupid
-"Whenever, Wherever" by Shakira was pitiful- (not a lot of people like yodeling!)
- "Love Shack" by the B-52s.
- "Summer Girls" by LFO
- "The Man With The Golden Gun" by Lulu(?)- just irritating!
- "Music" by Madonna

747-451 has a point- I have no idea what Britney is, but "Whore on Sunset Blvd." is an accurate description!! She's gone from "girl next door" to total whore in the last couple years...
