Sleaze Ball 2002 In Uniform

Sun Oct 06, 2002 1:27 pm

Hey guys,

Wow! I just got back from the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Sleaze Ball 2002 "in uniform" Dance Party.

Everyone has (well gay Sydney) been talking about how the Mardi Gras organisation has gone bankrupt, well I can safely say that they put on a sterling performance for this years Sleaze Ball.

There might not have been any major acts or anything but the space was well done and catered to everyone including the non drugged out, and gay / straight came out in droves! *yay!*

It went off, and I went off!!

Anyone else from here go?

Sleezeball in Uniform 2002--I tjought you were talking about the NY Mets baseball team, the second highest paysalary in the league, finishing dead last with a pot and blackmail scheme to boot.

The fest you mention reminds me of Wigstock in the Village in NY, which is popular with straights as well as gays. It is the most flamboyant and over the top kind of thing, but all good natured and (for the most part) well behaved. Unfortuantely, it too has had financial problems and is no longer done and there isnt really anything like it (except for the Halloween Parade). I see both every year since it was very "NY" and my girlfriends sister has an apartment in the Village.

Leftypilot,

Yeah, it was pretty sleazy I guess. I never took that much notice to be honest, you've been to one major gay party and they are pretty much the same. Not as much nakedness as in past years, if I remember.

And some of the old regulars that have appeared years prior - like "Troughman" (I'll leave that up to your imagination) may or may not have been there.

I went to a recovery today and there were still people partying from Saturday night! 8 hours of non-stop dancing certainly took their toll on me! LOL

747-451,

Pizza fans? I don't get it. lol

MX5_boy,

Mike Piazza is a catcher for the NY Mets Baseball team. He is good looking, rich with a 90 million USD contract and single. Over the summer he had to call a news conference to announce to the world he is "straight" after rumours to the otherwise were being printed in some of the NY newspapers. Some of these rumours were based on stupid things like "he was dating Miss Universe and blew it" or "he makes too much eye contact with male co-stars on commercials for a long distance service he does". The thing that really started this was a comment made by (disgraced and fired) Mets Manager Bobby Valentine (what a Runyonesque name) said that Major League Baseball is ready for a famous player to "come out of the closet".

This situation says alot about the sex hangups of fans, players and management in sports up here. It caused quite a stir here as NY Mets and Yankee fans hate eachother imensely.

At least in Australia, open minds abound and people know how to have fun without any sorts of hangups.

747-451,

I think we are fairly lucky here in Australia, particularly Sydney as I certainly don't see much homophobia type stuff.

A few years ago there was a very big anti-homophobic advertising campaign that was run here, with our major footbal stars appearing in ads around the city and elsewhere. I think with our footy stars in these ads it showed even the really homophic fans / people that homophobia is not on.

Does anyone else remember these ads? I remember them plastered all over Circular Quay.

MX5,

Actually I was quite appalled by the Mike Piazza mess, escpecially in a city like NY, which is probably the most open city in the states. I felt bad for Piazza because he was put on the spot. He wasn't homophobic or anything like that, he was just tired of having his name in the papaer every other day. Right now there is a Broadway show about a famous (ficticious) ball player who comes out. Actually I think the MLB should be worried about more serious problems affecting the sport like runaway salaries, steriods and drug use rather that what some one does in privacy. (Besides, what are they going to say about Derek Jeter, a player for the NY Yankees-he "struck out" with Mariah Carey!).

Regards,

747-451,

I just did some searches on news articles and I agree the whole Piazza thing is a little bit dissapointing.

You would think many of these people have better things to do with their time wouldn't you?
