Need Help! Speaker System!

Fri Oct 11, 2002 8:17 pm

My hard drive fused a couple of days ago  Pissed , and I got a new one, this time with Win2000 Prof.

I am now encountering a problem with my speaker system, Altec Lansing ADA305. I know that the software is only compatible with my older OS, Win98  Pissed  Pissed , but i have been assured the speakers would work fine.

NO they DON'T  Pissed  Pissed  Pissed  Pissed  Pissed
I cannot install the drivers for the system and there is distortion. (Some squeeky, staticy type of thing)  Pissed  Pissed  Pissed

Does anyone know where I can find this driver?
I checked Altec Lansing's website, but there isn't much help there, just some user installation guide yada yada yada, and some stuff for Win98... oh and my model isn't even listed there  Pissed  Pissed Pissed  Pissed  Pissed  Pissed

Can anybody please help me?

You need a driver for your speakers? Can't you just plug them into the speaker output? This concept is new to me. Is there a separate speaker out on your computer for systems with a driver?

I didn't know that either. But my computer keeps telling me "New hardware Found" but it tells me the driver is not installed.

Now with windows 98, I could install everyting straight from the CD, but now it tells me that my the drivers could not be installed on Win2000.

That makes me  Angry

DON'T BUT THIS PROCUCT IF YOU'RE RUNNING UNDER WIN 2000
ALtec said to me that they has NOT and will NEVER develop drivers for Win2000. They say it is not worth it to develop drivers for a "Corporate" OS. Fock'em.

My thoughts exactly.

Curse Altec Lansing. A plague on thier systems.  Pissed

Is this one of those speakers that plug into the USB connector?

This is good reason why I don't use such things. I have a pair of the original Cambridge Soundworks Soundworks speaker that plugs into the Line Out of my sound card and it works great even in Windows 2000 Professional.  Smile

I've got the BOSE Mediamate speakers and I added an altec subwoofer to it, it sounds so awesome. Just plugs in directly to the line out from the sound card. Is USB supposed to have better sound quality?

USB is for the Audio Management software, i think.... dunno about the quality, but i've got a lot of static, so i took the whole thing out and replaced them with my cheap speakers
