Dude...

You're insane for getting a car like that to drive in a city like Boston. With the Big Dig and the notorious Bostonian drivers out there, I wouldn't even take a '74 hatchback into the city!

However, I have to say that I am just a little bit jealous! I want this car!  Big thumbs up

Congrats. That's for sure one great car to drive.
I think the older Jag designs from the 80's and early
90's were a lot better. These new Jags just wanna
look unique even if they have to be that ugly.
In England car designers have nicknamed this Jag
the "loo" because of the front grill shape!
Anyways, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Have fun.

KROC, a Horizon, you lucky dog!

My folks barely lent me the money to get an '84 LeBaron as my first. I had that car forever. It was a good 8 months before the Maintenance equalled the $1500 it cost. Oh, the sounds that came out of that car. I think it was the last Chrysler on Earth not to have power anythings abourd. And not even a tapedeck (Though it did have a digital tuner, rare for an 84 domestic...), lol good times.

I have to admit, when I first saw this post I thought it was ILS/Flight Level come back to haunt us. But no, it appears that someone is actually telling the truth!

Congrats on your new car, I hope you enjoy a nice piece of English craftsmanship!

I love it, however Ford ruined the "luxury" feeling of the Jag...the newer ones anyways. Can anyone say Ford Tarus?

Ok, someone has to say this: You spoiled a** little b*tch!  Wink/being sarcastic I'm thankful i don't need to buy my father a car, much less a brand new jagg. I hope you'r kidding when you say that your dad got it for you cuz you're making me really jealous. Nice ride otherwise.

Ah, those were the days. When I was in college I split time between an '85 Honda CRX, and '85 Oldsmobile Cutlas Supreme and my '88 Accord. Those cars got the job done and I never had to care about door dings and the general abuse a car goes through.

I hope you have good safe places to park your car wherever you go.

Very nice car. I myself do prefer the "classic" Jaguar, the XJ6 Series III, which I intend to find a pristine example of and own within the next few years. I will say one thing, though...you're lucky your dad has money to burn, because Jaguars are not only expensive to purchase, but also expensive to maintain. Treat her well, and she will treat you well.  Smile

FYI, I don't agree that Ford "ruined" the luxury of Jaguars. They are certainly among the finest cars on the road, and the build quality and reliability is eons ahead of anything Jaguar produced before 1986. There is as much wood and leather in Jaguars of today as ever, and they have the power and smoothness a Ford could never come close to.

My first car was a 1982 Volvo 244GL, silver with blue velour interiour, which I purchased myself using money I earned over two years cleaning cars. I was very proud of it, and it was quite the ride for me! The Volvo was only 5 years old when I bought it, and friends and clients swore it was the cleanest car in town.

Thanks for all the various kinds of responses. I would like to make one thing clear...Jaguar is a much improved car then its previous years...realibility is not nearly as much of an issue as it used to be....those who think it is like a Ford and drives like a Taurus have obviously NEVER been inside an S-type or driven it...

Flight152....yes the XJ8 is nice but i prefer the S-type for a variety of reasons one of which is that the new shape is coming out in the USA anytime now....My best friend had a XJ8 in black with the XJR full body kit on it and it looked just like the picture you posted just that it had bigger wheels. The S-type also handles better.

Thanks again for the responses everyone....well i dont see whats the big deal with my dad buying me a car as many of you have pointed out....in my culture it is given that parents pay for everything thier children want until the child has their own resourse....a fathers wealth is also his sons ...
About the car....last night while driving on the Massachussets Turnpike(Masspike) i touched 130 mph, about 210 Km/h on the car until i saw a cop car on the opposite side of the road and i slowed down.....but what i loved was that the car was beautifully stable at that speed(the XJ is not nearly as stable on high speeds) and had plentyyyyy left in it.

Well it´s a nice car. But I like the old design of the Jaguars much better. They look just flat on the street - like a Jaguar!

The XJ Type follows the tradition.

Have you ever seen that car with big aluminium wheels. Just great.
Looks elegant and sporty.
yes i can handle that alone. - - -famous last words

My neighbour has an S-type registered in Dubai, its parked outside right now facing my way(I can see it through my window), the colour is a very darkish Green. Congrats, great car, I love Jag's. I also love the new C-class Merc's. Wish I can get one for my Dad and Mum, some day Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Man why didn't you ask your father to get you a XKR or XK8 instead? I don't think the used ones would be far more expensive than the one your father bought. It's a nice piece though i gotta admit and i am jealous as f*ck but i would have chosen a sportier car like the XKR or XK8 mentioned above.

Uh..dude...it's a nice car...but it's a girl car. At least that's what Jaguar's market is for the S-type.

Men have XK-8's and -R's. The S-type is for housewives and lady lawyers (this I know very well...)

Interesting choice.

Drive safe.

KHI747- The fact you were doing 130 mph in a brand new car you didn't pay for shows that you aren't mature enough to handle responsiblities. Daddy will pay for the insurance increase if you get cuaght, so what do you have to worry about? For your own good, start doing things for yourself, you'll be a lot better off when you're older. Otherwise, you won't have any real world experience in finances and you WILL end up a loser. Even the Sultan of Brunei's brother went bankrupt because he was spoiled and had everything handed to him, that's just sad. Sorry if I'm sounding mean, but that's reality.

I'm 21 and already invest my own money, work two jobs go to college (although I work only one job when I'm taking classes), my credit history is clean. Right after I graduate, I probably could buy my own house and expensive car and not have to put a large down payment or pay a high interest rate. I have my finances planned out for the next three months in my head at all times. Start thinking ahead, you won't regret it.

Oh yeah, you're going to ruin your engine by going 130 mph when it's brand new. You are supposed to break-in your engine before you start driving it hard. Manufacturers have different suggestions, but as a rule of thumb, don't take your engine above 5000 rpm and 80 mph until you get your first oil change. The parts need time to settle in and get used to operating. Any defections will be exacerbated very fast if you drive hard.

Hartsfieldboy........man what are you some kind of physco or something???  Confused.....the fact that i was doing 130 in im car shows im not responsible enough!!?? and what do you mean i did not pay for it...my dads money is my money thats how it works in my culture and i value it JUST as much as mine...and what do you know what i do myself and dont??....our parents pay for everything for us now but we take care of them the VERY same way when they get old..we dont abandon them like most old age people are in Western countries...so it works both way..and the car is not brand new and i know plenty well what can damage the engine and what cant....(please do not take any offense i am just explaining to you)

Airmale: Belive it or not literally i almost bought a Silver C320 a couple of weeks back..i like that car too alot....i was also getting a great deal on it but the car got out of my hand(long story)...i was always liked the S-type and i ended up on this one...much more of a car then a C-class.By the way Airmale cars in the USA are not NEARLY as expensive as they are in Pakistan.I have seen a few S-types in KHI ...when i was there in the summer i saw a Maroon one outside of the restaurant Okra.

Greg...I see what you are saying and i am aware of that...but this combination of black on black with the sports wheels really does look cool for me...plus i enjoy driving it alot and i have always have the habit of doing things different from most people who i know...most of the students here drive the usual Mercs n BMW's but this stands out of a little.I know you have the M5 and i love that car.I have a Bahraini friend here and he has one in Red and another Pakistani kid has it in Black....they are amaaaaazing cars but were out of my budget frankly.

How can college students afford owning benzes and Beemers? I can barely own a standard car like a ford or something and my financial situation is a little better than most students i believe. (At least here in sweden). Does everyone have wealthy parents in the US?

Wealthy? not really.. Everybody on airliners.net is wealthy though for some reason..

My parents bought me this (not quite a Jag):

Oh and another thing. Going 130 on the freeway, especially in MA, is totally unresponsible, not to mention stupid, and dangerous.

By everyone i meant the international students in Boston.....if anyone lives here he would know what im talking about...unbelievaly wealthy people from all over the world have children going to school here.
Quite surprising how pussy some of the people are at the idea of driving at 130 mph....well i dont drive like that all the time only once in a while on a empty highway...

I don't want to argue, but I've driven both types and the XJ is so much better. It is the classic Jaguar, while (no offense) the S-type is a guzzied up Taurus.

KHI: Nice car!  Smile

HartsfieldBoy: A little bit jealous or bitter, no? Its his decision to drive at fast speeds not yours. I hate people that have to give others sh*t because they arent as advantaged as them. Get over it!

But, I do agree that Ford has ruined Jaguars to a certain extent. When my father was shopping for cars, we stopped at Jaguar dealer to look at a '94 Jag VDP (which he eventually got). The guy at the dealer was showing us all these parts on the Jag that used to be chrome and other metals, but since Ford bought them, theyve turned them to plastic to save money. Jaguars arent about saving money, theyre not like Fords, and the people who drive them expect chrome not some cheap plastic look-alike. He also said that they really have some problems with some engine components that Ford had installed.

KHI747- I'm not trying to be a dick to you, I'm just letting you know of things I have personally seen. I respect your culture and that's your business and not mine, and I'm trying to help you out so you don't end up like some spoiled people I know of.

At the beginning, you said you took delivery. I've worked at five auto dealerships as a detailer and "deliver" only applies to brand new cars because used cars are already on the lot and you don't wait for them, so I thought you implied it was a new car. Messed up lingo, that's all. I was trying to help you out so you don't ruin your car.

Jcs17- I'm a self made man and I damn proud of that, I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm GLAD no one held my hand in my life. I've seen much more things about life in 21 years than a privileged kid will see in 60, I know what I'm talking about.

I couldn't care less what anyone drives or how they drive it. But do you want to explain to me how driving at 130 mph IS responsible? I'm waiting.........

If he kills himself, it's certainly not my problem. However, what if he slams into another car at that speed? Why should someone else suffer the consequences of his choice? I've actually done 130 before in my old 1985 BMW, but that doesn't make it a smart thing to do. Do I need to tell you about my friend who was killed going at an insane speed?

In 2001, the average income of a person who owns a Jaguar S-type is $107,000. His dad bought it for him. Something is wrong with this picture.

KHI, I mean that most forum members here don't have incomes of $107k/yr. And they're grown adults with jobs and all. Your dad, by giving you this car, has instantly put you into the spoiled luxury usually only earned by those making over a hundred thousand a year. Do you feel you should have that luxury? I hope you think so, because its not going to be like that forever.

I'm going to have to agree with hartsfieldboy here. Doing 130 is not being responsible, and it only takes 1 time to kill yourself or SOMEONE ELSE. I find it amazing how some people brag about how fast they can go in their car.

I can think of a few more members on airliners.net besides KHI747 that have had their cars paid for by the national bank of mom and dad...as well as just about everything else they own. I wouldn't be too quick to jump on other airliners.net members for being spoiled rotten.
