Cart Or IRL Which Do U Prefer

Sun Oct 27, 2002 4:02 am

Which do u prefee as many sponsors and teams are leaving cart for IRL but in my view cart is a better serious as you get a mix of both ovals and f1 style circuits.

I like CART the best. I to like the mix of road circuits and ovals. The cars are way better in CART than in IRL. Plus IRL is hardly ever on TV.

I like the fact that the IRL has taken steps to address cost issues, but.....

I'd like to see more power (around 650bhp right now, I believe....I'd like to see tham with F-1/CART power levels ~900hp) and most importantly, (as Bmi330 and Dragon-wings have pointed out....)

Until they run at least half of their races on road courses, and get off of all these ovals, they will remain at best an amusing diversion for serious fans....a "NASCAR without fenders". Unfortunately, the IRL's marketing guys are trying to capture just that market-crossover fans from NASCAR, who largely don't have the attention span to follow a road course event. It's partly greed, too...it's easier to fit 60,000 people into an oval track than onto say, Road Atlanta.

Maybe with the influx of CART teams (and their more talented drivers) there will be a move to more road-circuit events. I'm not saying eliminate the ovals, but make it 50/50, or the IRL will remain kind of a joke to real enthusiasts.

(Although seeing these guys circle the Richmond 3/4 mile oval at 165mph was pretty exciting)

I like the IRL, because of the tight racing & action (action= the Texas, Richmond, California & Chicago races). Although it didn't seem like it, there were a variety of winners this year. It's my favorite out of the two. The only bad thing about it is how Penske went in & dominated for the most part (don't get me wrong- I like Gil de Ferran.)

I like CART as well, it's just a shame how the teams are slowly headed for the IRL (Penske, now Andretti/Green). CART is down to 18 teams per race, when they had 26/27 a few years ago. The variety of types of tracks they run on is better as well (Road Courses, Street Courses, Ovals, etc.) Hopefully CART will be able to find new teams & recover, but it seems like they may be in trouble now that FedEx & Team Green are leaving.

Anyway, I'd love to see either series run Daytona (the OVAL, not the course!) although it's not gonna happen.

Yeah, that would be sweet, but as you pointed out, DeltaRules, it'll never happen. If they can run ~230 at Indy with four corners and minimal banking, they would probably be around 250-260 with the right aero package at a Daytona/Talladega. I heard somewhere that they all worry that the cars would jusy fly off the track at a place like that, which is why they won't run there  Sad

That would also be quite scary too KRIC777. If Dale Earnhardt died doing "only" 190 miles per hour, hitting the wall at 250-260 would be an instant death IMO.

Going back to the question, I guess I like the IRL more than CART. I like watching how Sarah Fisher does. She's very talented. But I barely watch it. It's always NASCAR for me. Kurt Busch has 2 wins and he's 7th in points. Roush racing drivers are all in the top 15. Man, it doesn't get any better than that!  Big thumbs up

I would love it if CART and IRL got back together and balanced out the oval racing and the road coarse racing. That way, they will be better able to compete with NASCAR. But I doubt that'll happen  Crying

I like IRL because passing becomes very scary on IRL races. There's been several very close finishes in the IRL recently, too.

I think IRL could run at Daytona and Talladega, but only by limiting the max RPM on the engine from 11,000 RPM to 9,000 RPM (the same as Formula 3000 racers).

I like CART more... IRL just plain sucks.

The best racing is F1.. I miss the days when F1 cars roared through the City of Detroit.. Those were the best days of racing.

Im not really a fan of ovals.

Formula One. Its the best racing. This season wasn't as good though, I like it back when it was pure skills (no traction control/launch control).

mas a330 I think f1 is undutibly the best as it is the biggest spectator sport bar non. But what I cant understand is why fans and teams want to join IRL from cart which I think is so much better. Anyways F1 god Mr Ecolston is linked with baying 51% share in cart the now.

Kurt Busch has 2 wins

Oooops, made a mistake, Busch won again today, so now it's 3 wins  Big thumbs up Big thumbs up Big thumbs up

Yeah baby! Doesn't get any better than back to back wins! (Well, maybe a winston cup championship, but that can wait, he's only 24 years old!)

National_757- Kurt Busch is good, no doubt about it! With the win, he passes my favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, whose decent season has gone due south since Darlington (right after HIS back-to-back wins), for 6th in pts... Any time he can capitalize on somebody ahead of him screwing up, he blows it.... Oh, well. I'm with you, I like NASCAR the best, although CART & the IRL are both exciting.

I pull for Sarah Fisher in IRL, too. She's talented, she's proven it. (She's from just south of CMH, too!)

Somebody mentioned it above, but I think that if they put some form of restrictor plate on IRL or CART cars, they could run at Daytona or Talladega. I'd probably be too nervous to watch the race, one hard wreck & that's it.

Oh man DeltaRules, you like Jeff Gordon? Man, I'm sorry. Nah, just joking, I hate him, but I'll admit that he's a great driver hehe. How can you be too nervous to watch an IRL race at Daytona? I was at the last IRL race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in 1998 where the fans were killed. It was awesome racing up until then  Sad. But, if they can control the speeds, I'd love to see IRL run Daytona. And for the record, IRL is much better than CART.
