Installing Daytime Running Lights?

Mon Oct 28, 2002 11:46 am

Hey everyone , since im applying to mostly Canadian Universities a thought suddenly crossed my mind...if I want to import my vehicle into Canada it has to have Daytime running lights. Is it very hard to install these things? How much does it cost usually? I know some of you are fairly knowledgeable about vehicles so I figured this might be a good group to get an idea from...btw , I drive a 2002 Nissan Xterra.

There is no requirement for DRL, only that new vehicles have them since whenever the law came in. My 78 280Z doesn`t have them, and I am not required to use headlights, although I always do.

That would explain that very excitable Mountie I passed up by Prince George a couple of years ago.

Avt , I was looking on the transportation canada's website and it said all imported vehicles had to have daytime running lights...maybe its just an ontario thing then?

I guess that is possible. Each province has different laws on vehicle standards, and the federal gov`t (Transport Canada) regulates importing vehicles. You can buy a box that mounts under the hood and puts the headlights on whenever the ignition is on. These are aftermarket items. If you have to install DRL, and I wouldn't until I was forced to, check with Nissan, you might be able to just plug in a module without wiring changes. Good luck!

This sucks big time. I´m so against this regulation - we´re going to have it introduced in the EU very shortly.
Bah, humbug!  Pissed
