Album(s) That Just Own You

Tue Nov 05, 2002 3:48 pm

Have any of you ever had albums that just own you? That mesh with your life, your imagination, your dreams, your feelings? An album that is your personal soundtrack? I am listening to DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing" and that album will probably captivate me for the rest of my life. I want to write some movies with that as the soundtrack, as well as pretty much anything Fatboy Slim and Moby have come out with. Oh well, pardon my generalization. What all do you have?

Yeah, that DJ Shadow album is amazing (even better on vinyl  Smokin cool).

For me it would have to be one of these:

Beastie Boys "Ill Communication", listened to that over and over and never get tired. "Paul's Boutique" by them is also good if not even more amazing. The layers seem to draw me in each time I listen (plus you can make a fun game out of identifying the samples they used...)

Daft Punk "Homework" used to listen to that when I threw pottery, just kept me in a zone.

I'm sure there are a couple more, but can't think about them now.

regards,
Tom

D.J. Shadow - "Entroducing"
Wu-Tang Clan - "36 Chambers"
Gza/Genius - "Liquid Swords"
A Tribe Called Quest - "Low End Theory" and "Midnight Mauraders"
Cherry Poppin' Daddies - "Zuit Suit Riot"
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy"
Overkill - "Under The Influence"
KRS-ONE - "Return of the Boom Bap"
Boogie Down Productions - "Criminal Minded"

I will think of tons more, but when it comes to rock and such, I have become a slave to compilations.
