Facial Hair

Mon Nov 11, 2002 12:06 pm

Hey all,

Do you guys prefer to have facial hair? I'm 15 but I shave. How long does it normally take to grow a goatee? I kinda wanna grow a goatee but I'm afraid my facial hair still doesn't grow fast enough for me to have a good looking one.

Oh one more question...anyone have experience with electric shavers? Would you recommend them over regular razors? Seems like they might be a little irritating on the skin..?

Thanks for any answers,

I prefer facial hair because it means I have less shaving to do. Alas, I've got a scruffy, multi-colored beard that makes me look like Grisly Adams, so I maintain a clean-shaven face.

I always thought electric shavers were hard on my skin. Plus they don't cut the beard as close as a razor. Razors are no picnic in their own right. The best advice I can offer you is to shave in the shower. Get yourself one of those suction mirrors and shave after you've built up a lot of warm steam. It's a lot easier on your skin that way. Also, take frequent breaks from shaving. If you can go without shaving over the weekend, do so. It gives your skin a chance to recuperate.

I let mine grow out for a few days and then I shave it...I have a nasty tendency to still cut myself a lot so I shave as little as possible to avoid that...

I wear a full beard, keeping it from becoming scraggly with an electric trimmer and shaver. I've been growing a beard since I was eighteen/nineteen. It only takes about a week for it to grow in, and it grows in dark. I'd spend far too much of my life shaving otherwise. Electric is the way to go, better yet get battery operated so you can travel abroad with it, and use rechargeable batteries to save money. My wife doesn't mind my facial hair unless it's really too short/stubbly.

If you're only fifteen, chances are that your goatee won't grow in so well yet. Give it some time. Helps also if your hair is dark; most women I've spoken to do not care for blonde or red chin hair.

Well, if you check out my profile, I guess it goes without saying that I must typically maintain a good shave. I've been fortunate that most of my military assignments have little or no weekend activities, so I have a chance to give my face a break on the weekend.

My standard is to shave AFTER I shower. It gives me a chance to get my face softened up a little. Shaving after a shower and over a sink lets me pay more attention to the details than if I shave in the shower. I've also found that Nivea aftershave balm works pretty darn good.

Another note...just in case anyone is contemplating...I have been trying out a little laser hair removal. Some might not talk much about it, but hey...if woman can have invasive surgery to get silicon boobs, I don't worry all that much about a simple laser getting rid of some excess fur.

I am lazy and get away with shaving twice a week... though I really should shave everyday. But when you are in college you can get away with these sorts of things.

I tend to look like crap if I don't shave often enough. Some people just look better baby faced. Plus after a few days it can itch and just feel dirty all the time, which is no fun.

I would recommend getting a good razor... I use a Mach 3. Just make sure to replace the cartridges regularly and use a shaving foam that has mosturizers in it. I use plain old Barbasol with Aloe... stuff is cheap and works wonders, I get very little razor burn these days. I would stay away from the Gilette Edge Gel, I never liked the way it foamed up... plus it is expensive.

One more thing... use hot water.

I shave about three a week because I can't stand shaving. I usually do it at night aswell because I can't be bothered in the mornings. So usually I go to university with stubble!

I got a goat which i started labor day weekend of 2001. I like it because I don't look 14 anymore, though it can be a hassle to take car of and i am often tempted to just shave it all off. But then I think of how young I looked clean shaven and stick with it.

I use an electric razor simply because it is quicker, easier, and less messy. Though razor burn is a bitch. When I go home from school sometimes I shave with a regular razor. Definitely smoother.

I shave pretty much every day since I was about 14 (I'm almost 16), cept most of the time w/o gel or cream (baaaaad idea) so I get razor burn a lot. It kinda sucks to shave when your right in the midst of puberty, you got a lot of zits and pimples and they can get cut easily.

If I don't shave for 2 days then I start to look really dirty, so I usually make sure to shave.

I experimented with sideburns (the neat kind, just to the bottom of my ears) when I was 18, then decided they looked dumb. I just leave them a half inch long, I shave every other day. As soon as I can feel stubble, I shave it off. I prefer the baby-face approach.

I'm 20 now, by the way, and thankfully not a hirsute individual.

Dash8King- i dont suppose ur still using the same razor?  Smile

I shave while showering, 9 times out of 10, i make sure my skin is all hot soft and and then use an exfoliating scrub just before i shave, it not only makes the skin smoother for a clean shave, but lifts the stuble! I then get out the shower, shave, and get back in the shower! I found this works best for me, as i cut myself easily, so going back in the shower prevents any cut marks appearing!

P.S. the other 1 time, i go to the hair dressers, cos i sometimes keep a gotee (i hate that name), or a 'line beard'- as the hair dresser calls it!

I've gotten in the bad habit of not shaving for a few days and growing a 5'o clock shadow. However, the shape of my mouth leaves a cheap looking mustache, and it kinda ruins the whole "playoff beard" thing I could get going. I leave sideburns every once in a while. Like Dash8, I never use shaving cream, its too much of a hassle. I usually just shave in the shower or use hot water. Another plus of shaving in the shower is that your pores dont burn like crazy after you shave and then sweat. Luckily, I've never experimented with the goatee or full beard. I'm shaving on Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays ( if I go somewhere). I should shave everyday but I am too lazy. I always shave in the morning after brushing my teeth, and then I take shower. I use Gilette Foam not Gel. And I like one time use (which I use for whole week) BIC razorblades with vitamine E or B. I also have Mach 3 but I dont like it and extra razors are just too expensive. On one box (10 razors) of BIC I can go 2-3 months and it cost only $5.
I have mustache and goat beard joined in one around my mouth. I started saving (not shaving hehee) my facial hair when I was 14-15 I wanted badly mustache. Then when I was 16 I started shaving almost everyday to get strong and more facial hair. And my wish was granted. I hate shaving but I have no choice hehehe

I got a goatee (sorta), but I've been considering to get rid of it. I'll see.
