Things That Bother Me About NFL Games!

Mon Nov 11, 2002 11:11 pm

First of all I am a huge fan of American football. There are just certain things that bug me when I watch it. Here they are and feel free to share yours.

"Prior to the snap, false start......"

Blimps at a domed stadium.

End zone dancing.

When a defensive player makes a tackle on an insignificant play and then celebrates like he saved the go ahead touchdown.

Jerome Bettis' boastful head shake after every 1/2 yard run.

Emmett Smith who claims he does it for the 'Love of the Game" even though he held out for more money a few years back.

Announcers who try and sound important saying "When I was talking *to whatever player or coach* last night he told me..." (Phil Simms, Chris Collinsworth)

Prevent Defense

Kickers who miss 20 yard field goals.

That's all I can think of for now.

Blimps at domed stadiums... AT NIGHT.

"Yup, just a big black dot in the middle of the city. Think there is a football game going on down there, can't see it though."

I could probably make a shorter post by telling the things I actually like about the NFL. I'm a huge fan of the college game, and the only reason I pay attention to the pros is to keep up with how some of my favorite college players are doing.

Just finished reading the latest Sports Illustrated. Rick Reilly, a regular columnist on the last page of each issue--"The Life of Reilly" has most recently criticized the blatant hypocrisy of the NFL front office. Seems Paul Tagliabue and his cronies have recently decided to lay down some unprecedented fines for "dangerous hits". However, on the the other hand, the NFL has no second thoughts about licensing no fewer than several computer games that feature cheapshots on demand, taunting injured players and in-game announcers who make fun of the player who is seemingly writhing in pain.

To me, the NFL (and most pro sports) have become too much of a business. I realize you can't separate the finances from the game, but too much of the focus is now away from fair competition (thanks Steinbrenner!!.....oh, and more thanks to Anaheim for bucking the trend!)

I dont like college football because its not a level playing field...there is no fun in watching teams like Miami blow out opponent after opponent on a regular basis...I find it far more fun to watch the NFL where upsets are commonplace and the teams are far more evenly matched...I just stay away from news regarding the business end of the NFL and I watch it "for the love of the game"

Like Hamfist, I am a huge College Football fan. My take on it is this, the College game is far more exciting overall, and the players seem to play harder, becuase face it, they want to get to the NFL, where they can make their millions, then go Randy Moss.

As far as level playing fields, for every Miami vs. Troy State, there is Miami vs. Florida State. Every game in college football means something. You lose once, you can pretty much forget about a championship. The intensity involved in every game is amazing.

For all those that complain baseball games are too long, why does it go unsaid that a 60 minute Football game takes over 3 hours to play?!?!?! Hell, the last 5 minutes of a fairly close NFL game will take like 35 minutes!!!

This is my only complaint about college basketball!
I don't watch much football, but when I do, it is to get the score of the Tampa Bay game. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we are forced to watch Oakland, Seattle, or Denver. The only time we ever see any East coast teams is when they are playing against these three teams. That is my one complaint about American Football.
