Champions League 2nd Phase

Sun Nov 17, 2002 9:40 am

I am suprised no one has posted the 2nd phase Champions League groups yet. So here I am doing so...

GROUP A
Barcelona
Inter Milan
Bayer Leverkusen
Newcaste

GROUP B
Valencia
Arsenal
Roma
Ajax Amsterdam

GROUP C
Real Madrid
AC Milan
Borrusia Dortmund
Lokomotiv Moscow

GROUP D
Manchester United
Juventus
Deportivo La Coruna
FC Basle

Being a longtime Gooners fan, I am bit disappointed to see Arsenal get grouped up with such a tough group and see Manure get an relatively easier one (Deportivo need Valeron back ASAP, if they are going to have any chance).
By the way did anyone watch the Arsenal v Spurs game. What a goal by Thierry Henry, simply brilliant!

Looks quite gloomy, but Arsenal are Arsenal, we can beat any side in the world on our day.

And yes, Henry's goal today against Spurs was goal of the season. Just another reminder to everyone that he's the best striker on the planet.  Wow!

Breathtaking goal!!!

GROUP C
Real Madrid
AC Milan
Borrusia Dortmund
Lokomotiv Moscow

One hell of a group, Real will probably walk through, but Dortmund vs. Milan will be a tough battle. (Remember their UEFA cup fight last season? 4:0/1:3)

Arsenal@LHR, I agree with you that Arsenal can beat any team on its day. However, I am really worried about Valencia. They have to be the best Spanish side at the moment. Unlike Barca, Real Madrid they have no really big name players (maybe Aimar), but they play awesome. Won't forget that goal they scored against Liverpool at the Mestalla. They clinically disected half the Liverpool team, with beautiful passing, just like the way Arsenal does day in day out actually!

What about Henry's goal against West Ham. That screaming bullet, had me jumping for joy. That might be goal of the year contender too. By the way the big game in 3 weeks time... Arsenal v Manure at old Trafford will be great viewing. Hopefully we can celebrate another Gooners drubbing!!

Racko, I think AC Milan and Real will go through. Dortmund will struggle. They didn't exactley inspir me when they played Arsenal (eventhough they did win 2-1). Dortmund needs Rosicky, Ewerthon and Frings firing otherwise they have no chance and Koller is very much overated, he is just big and slow. Even Heskey is better than him!

Yes, Valencia are the team to worry about, the way they slaughtered liverpool was frightening. They will be a real test for us, but the key for Arsenal is to win our homes games, we simply have to win them, and then maybe a nick a point away to Roma or Valencia. Having said that, i expect us to beat Roma and Valencia and go through to the quarter finals.

We have more chance than Newcastle or Man Utd simply because we are a better team with better players.  Big grin

My predictions (and I have £20 on this with the bookes! Big grin)

GROUP A
Barcelona
Inter Milan
Bayer Leverkusen
Newcastle

Barcelona, Leverkusen - Newcastle are the worst team in that group

GROUP B
Valencia
Arsenal
Roma
Ajax Amsterdam

Arsenal, Valencia - don't care what anyone says - Arsenal are a better team than Valencia and qualified easily for this phase despite playing terribly for the last 3 games

GROUP C
Real Madrid
AC Milan
Borussia Dortmund
Lokomotiv Moscow

AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund - Real Madrid were sh*t in the last phase and aren't as good as everyone says they are - once they lose 1 game they will crumble as everyone sees that they are not incincible

GROUP D
Manchester United
Juventus
Deportivo La Coruna
FC Basle

Manchester United, Juventus - Deportivo might challeng Man Utd and Juventus for the 3rd place though - it depends which Deportivo plays - the team that beat Munich in Germany or the one which was hammered 4-0 at home by Milan.
