Meteor Shower Tonite!

Tue Nov 19, 2002 12:24 pm

If you're in North America, tonite there is a big meteor shower. I'm waking up at 3:30 EST to see it, you should too if your body is up to it. (Hopefully mine will, especially on college time.)

Hello,

04:10 in the morning here in Ireland. Been up all night looking out, hoping for the cloud to go away. No such luck  Sad! Ah well, my next chance is in 2033.

Overcast here in Chicago with a rain alert and a 3 mile visibility. Doubt we'll be able to check it out. Assuming there are some souls awake at that time.

Too damn cloudy west of Cleveland tonight.  Sad The early show was to be between 11pm and midnight here, but you can barely see the moon. Gee, clouds in Cleveland....never happens.  Wink/being sarcastic

WOW!

It's a gorgeous clear sky tonight. I just got back from watching it with my friends, we must have seen over 100 in under an hour. Simply incredible. It was freezing outside!! But well worth it  Smile Unlike anything I've ever seen before. We drove 20 minutes to a back road near the farms. The only downside was the full moon, but it was still an amazing experience.

 Big thumbs up

We had clouds too, so I didn't even bother to get up and have a look.

Buenos Aires, Argentina here -
Went out of the city - too bright where I live...
But that full moon did not help...
Saw quite a show for a few minutes.

Too tired to drive into the mountains, but watched from my backyard (in Gilbert, AZ) for an hour 3 - 4AM. Well, with my house blocking out the entire western sky (where the moon was) and two trees blocking half of what was left, I still caught quite a show! I faced east, towards the radiant. I guess I could only see the brightest, as most of the ones I saw were bright enough to leave a train for several seconds. A couple times near the peak I counted off a minute and counted between 12 and 15 per minute, sometimes more than 1 at any moment. Over the limited view of the sky, with the moon and city lights, I thought that was impressive!!

Well I actually got myself up at 3:45 and went to an open plain here in central Florida. To my surprise, there must have been one or two thousand people there at 4:15am. It was absolutely clear out. We saw so many, it was amazing. The peak was at 5:30 just like the report predicted, we saw up to 5 at a few given moments. The larger ones tended to be in the western sky. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was the fact it was 35 degrees out. I froze my arse off, I thought this was Florida  Smile.

Sorry about the original post, I didn't realize most of the world was gonna be able to see it, I misread an earlier report saying that N. America hasn't received a show like this in awhile.

Je89 w,

If you're so upset, you can always come live here in Central Illinois and I can sleep in and miss things like this in your Honolulu home Big grin So when are we switching residences?
