I'd vote for South Africa or Nigeria. They have done more than Morocco and Egypt on the World scene of football.

I'm not really into soccer, but I think it would be wiser to choose morocco since it's the closest country to europe ( 5 miles from the southern coast of spain? ), and since pretty much the majority of soccer fans come from europe, the competition would drain more fans, publicity ( and thus money! ) since it's way more convenient ( and cheaper ) for them to than having to travel to south africa or nigeria.

just my 2 cents.

Nigeria?????? You must be kidding!!!!
A country where fanatics kill 100 people during discussions about the Miss World competition??
A country where a young woman can be sentenced to death by STONING???
Where exactly would you like to build at least 12 arenas with a world standard, and who would pay for it??
How would you guarantee the safety of the teams and the fans???
Where's the infrastructure to make something like that feasible??

Sorry, but we do not talk about saying thank you to a country for its merit in World football by handing over the World Championships!!! Please keep that in mind, it's a billion dollar thing that needs a lot of experience.
That may sound arrogant, as I come from Germany, that hosts the 2006 championships, but at least there have been several other festivities around that prove that Germany is able to do it..the same goes to many other countries, to be perfectly clear, but Nigeria is definitely NOT one of them!

...and I hate to say it, as one of my best friends is an Egyptian, the same goes for Egypt!
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

South Africa, because its probably the best equipped African country to host the World Cup.

non of them anyways I think probaly australia just get a feeling or somewere in europe. There infrustructure are not developed enough, and still developing countrys they have better things to spend there money on. South Africa's crime rate is to high. It has to be in a country with lots of money to spend hense the last few finals being in the USA, France, Japan and S.Korea and Germany next they are all well devloped with good transport thinks eg Bullet train, TGV etc. Plus lots of coparations to fund it. Plus lots of world class stadiums brand new or existing for the games. Cant see it going to africa its cost millions just to win the dam thing. it would be nice for a change but.

Andreas is correct, he mentioned some reasons in his reply above why Nigeria should not host a soccer world cup. But let us wait, also a banana republic like Nigeria can get the cup when the government donates enough money to Mr. Blatter and the other corrupt FIFA guys.

I would like to see the soccer world cup 2010 in South Africa.

Yes, only African countries may bid for the 2010 cup.

Really a two-horse race between South Africa and Morocco, SA offering better infrastructure and a track record of hosting the Rugby World Cup (1995) and the upcoming Cricket World Cup (2003), and Morocco offering closer proximity to the European supporter "market".

Unlike Korea/Japan 2002, at least time zones won't be a problem for either the players or the European TV audience with the WC being in Africa  Big grin

There will be 1 or even 2 members form each federation. UEFA, CAF etc. Brazil is ment to be as welll as they stoped the 2006 bid if they got backing from Germany for 2010 and got most of there origenal votes. But then there's the hole packet of european votes going to the european bidder and origanaly germany and england had a gentalmans agrement where england backet germany 2006 and germany backed england 2010. But to be honest there is so much double crossing wining and dining and ALEGED bribery who really knows where it will be. Probaly who ever has biggest check book.

I´d say it´s time to give the world cup to South America - the last time was in 1978.

I don´t believe ANY African country´s infrastructure is able to handle such an event in the medium/long term.

South Africa - it IS Africa's turn!

The infrastructure is good enough to handle a world event. And it'll be even better in 2010. We've had the Rugby World Cup in 1995; the Cricket World Cup next year; Joburg had the World Summit this year; and we've had Miss World/Miss Universe countless times.

South Africa has been trying for a while to get a major sporting event...there was the Olympic Games bid for 2004 and the Soccer World Cup bid for 2006. People forget that South Africa were firm favourites to get these events. The only reason we didn't get the World Cup in 2006 was because of one man from New Zealand (forgot his name) who didn't vote for us. I can't remember the exact details...all I know is that we all felt extremely betrayed by him when he voted for Germany. The whole country still hates him.  Angry

It think the 2010 soccer WC should be co-hosted by South Africa, Namibia and
Botswana. I think both Windhoek and Gaborone are good places to play some matches, the closeness to Europe could actually be problem for Marocco due
to all the huligans that can get there easily and inexpensive. Nigeria is definitly
too risky in my point of view. Rugby and Cricket is still small sports if you
compare with soccer, so a co-hosted tournament would be the best solution....

It is South America's turn.
Chile could host a World Cup really with no problems...we are more prepared than Africa. Also Brazil or Argentina could host a World Cup in 2010.

Lan_fanatic...no it's not. It would be if the choice were between Europe and America, but Africa definitely does have best chances this time.

Patrick: You're basically right, pay enough to that corrupt Swiss survivor of the old Havelange mafia, and he'll do what you want ... except this time: he knows quite well that he cannot do what he likes with the whole UEFA going unanimously against him, and believe me, in the case of Nigeria, the whole UEFA would do just that!!

Earlier in my post i said Nigeria. But that was before I knew about the riots. So I would vote definitely for South Africa. They were unlucky not to qualify for the second round of the World Cup 2002.

South Africa is virtually assured of it I thought - certai ly somewhere in africa anyway.

Not sure why some people give Morocco's close proximity to Europe as a good point in their favour ? Remember we are not going by steamship anymore, it is still just a plane ride away whether that ride be 3 or 13 hours does it really make that much difference ?

Same with the arguement about time zones for TV coverage, someone somewhere has to lose out and get out of bed at 3 am to watch the games, why should Europeans get special consideration ?

because Europe is where football or soccer is the big business, it's where the money is earned. Sorry to all those who love football and do not live in Europe, but it's a fact! (now don't come up with South America, they're football-crazy, but that's not where the big bucks roll).
Remember the olympics when the men's 100m finals had to take place in the morning, so that the USA had it on prime-time TV? Yeah well, that's how the business works!

Anyway SA would be perfect veiwing time for Europe would it not ?

South America has hosted the World Cup before. It really is Africa's turn - there is no arguing with that.

And we would host the World Cup well - we do actually have the facilities...believe it or not. Although one might find Simba and Nala from The Lion King mating with each other on the field in the middle of the final. Or those damn gorillas might run riot through the streets.

Lan_Fanatic, the thing that talk against South America is that they already hosted (I love to see the Olympics in Brasilia though).
Pacificjourney, as for travelling distance, the world cup in Japan/South Korea prove one thing, to get rid of
the huligans you need to get it long out of distance from Europe, Marocco is too close,
large numbers of huligans can go there on buses and by ferry (they like to hide in the large numbers), South Africa is remote enough so the only option is plane (something the huligans don´t like).

South Africa seems to be the only reasonable candidate, looking at the list of participants. I perceive Morocco as the only other real option. Maybe an African country can make it to the final in 2010. Hell, if Korea could, anyone can(due to corrupt referees).
