Well if your vehicle is properly registered in a location that requires no front plate write a letter to the court explaining such. That ticket will be dismissed. Pay the speeding ticket though, you earned it.

One more thing i forgot to say the cop told me to "slow down man your gonna kill some body" I could not stop laughing when he said that. its a proven fact that in Germany where there is NO SPEED limit there is 70% less traffic deaths then there is in the US the speed limit in my opinion is one of those stupid laws that nobody obeys, This is how the United states police serve there country by giving service members like myself that actually do something to protect the United States tickets when we have somewhere important to be other than sit there pulling people over to meet monthly quotas might i add i was gowing with the flow of traffic wich was going 75 i add i little more gas to go 80 to pass and he pulled me over. I dont know about him but I was in a hurry to get on base before i was late unlike him trying to earn a quick buck so he could blow it at the doughnut shop.

The average driver in Germany is much better then one in the US.

Cars in Germany are better.

Roads in Germany are better.

You can't compare German highways/speeds to the US.

Yeah, i somehow doubt that the reason there are less traffic deaths in Germany is because there is no speed limit. It is because though they often seem very very impatient, they are good drivers. The schooling they have to go through to drive is comparable to what you have to go through here to get a pilots license...There it is not uncommon to fail a drivers test (the practical) because it is that freaking hard. But (no offense to those who have done this) if you've failed a driving test here in the US....you shouldent be driving in the first place. More or less...if you can pass the knowledge test, and can drive during the test without hitting something...they'll give it to you. Thats why there are so many accidents here in the US...people are stressed over stupid stuff and think that they are more important than anyone else. And they just suck at driving. Even though it costs a whole hell of a lot of money to get your license the German way, I wish the US would do it the way they do that in Germany. That way stupid people can't get licenses and kill people.

I found this quote on the internet and i want everybody to read this:

"Deliberately setting the speed limit too low, and then sending out cops to sneak behind motorists is highway robbery disguised as traffic safety enforcement... [in a traffic court] the robber is the plaintiff and the victim is the accused..."

"Breaking the laws of speed limit doesn't kill, breaking the laws of physics does."

USAir, you could see if you can do some sort of drivers school, most states allow that. If you feel you have a case you could take it to court, you can delay the court because of military duty.

The no plate offence should be a no point offence so it shouldn't affect your insurance, the speeding, wow, where do you think you are Florida, slow down, personally I like to drive fast but never much faster than the speed limit in areas where they are low. In TX, FL, AZ, etc you can spend like that but not in Washington where the limit is low and enforced.

Goto traffic school, thats what I did for my first ticket, and what I would do for your speeding ticket, your plate ticket, well just pay it.
At worst, you screw up and die.

Well, you should stop your pissing and moaning. I think it's quite funny that you were ticketed for your vanity German plate. I mean, if you car is not actually German-registered property and you are not actually a German citizen, what's the point (and I don't care about heritage)? You have no business displaying an unofficial vanity plate in the front if your home state requires and issues a front plate. The front window is not the proper display location. And if I had any say in the matter, I would outlaw the vanity international ovals a lot of Americans wrongly display on their cars.

About the speeding ticket, you were probably speeding well beyond the flow of traffic which is dangerous. Unless you have had some formal driver training beyond the drivers ed you were in that got you your license in the first place, I'd keep your trap shut about how there is nothing unsafe about your speeding. Were you really in that big of a hurry? What were you going to do with the time you saved by driving fast? Watch a few more minutes of TV or what?
25 miles / 55 mph = 28 minutes
25 miles / 65 mph = 23 minutes
25 miles / 80 mph = 19 minutes
Hey look, going 25 mph over might save you a whopping 9 minutes on this trip! Yay!

I'm on the road several hours a day and I too often see the results of piss poor driving. And unfortunately on my way home from work a month ago I got to feel the results when some lame-brain from out of state pulled out in front of me without looking.

Just slow it down a bit and take it easy. Don't speed excessively unless you can really justify the time saved.

"no US plate in the front i have a German plate on the front bumper of my VW GTi "

Id give you a 5000 dollar ticket for driving a VW.

"The average driver in Germany is much better then one in the US.

1. Agree
2. Disagree thats BS. The average car in Germany isnt a BMW 7 series. A couple Opel Corsas and Peugot 207s brings the average "car" table down the drain haha.
3. Depends the Autobahns are better constructed and layed out. That dosent mean all roads, and Germany has considerably less of them.
4. Agree, there are places where you can get "wild" with no cops however  Big thumbs up

The front plate deal is a non-moving violation (ie a "fix it" ticket.) In Arizona a front plate isn't required, so I pulled my Oregon one off (I have it in the trunk) and put a novelty CA one on. I'm not sure how Washington/Clark County does it, but a "fix it" ticket will be dismissed if you go to the court, and prove you've fixed the problem. (ie. throw the WA plate on).

As for the speeding ticket, I'd take it to court. If you do that, (and I highly suggest you do) try and get it so the cop isn't there. If the cop isn't in court, your ticket is dismissed. End of story. No questions asked. You also want to try and reschedule it for a long time out (ie. maybe Aug/Sep of 2003) The cop probably won't remember, and won't show.

Let me guess, you were on the 205 south right after the 5 split?

Request a trial by jury.

You'll have make three appearances in court...but 99% of them are dismissed.
It has little to do with having the cop present...their are just too many tickets to process...they judge will usually dismiss them en masse.

I got five speeding tickets last year....all dismissed (after the requisite lecture by the judge). You just gotta love Texas!

Chrisair I was heading north from clackamas town center right before the I-205 bridge at night (Friday) you know how on the left side there is all that room for a few cars to stay where it is coverd by the MAX train tracks that head for the airport the pig got me there. If you still remember? Moultnomah County Sherrif got me, See the thing that pissed me of was that i actually went through speed traps in Washington, Orgeon, California, and even Canada and the cops never said anything i even pulled up in front of them said "hey" they said it back and nothing ever happend i went on my merry way, but this clown Rear Admiral Retard had to say something mr hero save the day. Two years later this happens. BTW I misread the ticket it was $175 for the 80 in the 55 and $77 for the plates so it was $252. I got luckey cause i was origanally doing about 125-30 but i saw a pack of cars way ahead of me all get on the brakes so i just stopmed the brake I actually let out a sigh of relief when he told me he got me doing 80.

How To Piss Off A Cop:

1. I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer.

2. Sorry, Officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.

3. Aren't you the guy from the Village People?

4. Hey, you must've been doin' about 125 mph to keep up with me! Good job!!

5. Excuse me. Is "stick up" hyphenated?

6. I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a police officer.

7. I was going to be a cop, but I decided to finish high school instead.

8. Bad cop! No Donut!

9. You're not gonna check the trunk, are you?

10. Didn't I see you get your butt kicked on "Cops"?

11. You look just like the guy in the picture on my girlfriend's nightstand.

12. I pay your salary!

13. So, duhhhh, you on the take, or what?

14. Gee, Officer! That's terrific. The last officer only gave me a warning, too.

15. Do you know why you pulled me over? Okay, just so one of us does.

16. I was trying to keep up with the other traffic. Yes, I know there is no other car around, that's how far ahead of me they are.

17. What do you mean, "Have I been drinking?" You're the trained observer!

Normally the Multnomah County guys don't go on the freeway. In fact, in the four years I lived in Portland, I never saw them pull someone over on the freeway. Most of the time it'll be OSP that'll nail you, and they like to hide. They also like using under-cover cars to pace you, and then have a normal car pull you over, and they really like to use their Cessna. Be very careful of that damn airplane cop.

I know that area well, and it is a very nice spot for cops to hide and wait. You don't see them until you're right ontop of them.

I wouldn't suggest doing 125 on any freeway in Oregon. The cement is in real bad shape on the 205, and you're really asking for trouble if you're moving along at that pace.

Where I'm from you don't have to go to court unless you intend to fight it. You just have to pay the fine which means you waive a hearing, plead guilty and its over with. Of course it has to be paid BEFORE the court date. Read the small print on the ticket. It should explain that. I've never heard of anyone having to go to court for a speeding ticket just to plead guilty and pay the fine.

Jet, in New York, the ticket gets dropped if the cop doesn't show up for court, and it actually happens more then it doesn't! Even if the cop does show up, it can sometimes be reduced a lot, like to a non working back tail light.

No offense dude, but considering it was a Friday night on I-205, you were lucky it took you to get to the bridge to get nailed...especially if you were going as fast as you say you were. (which is a whole other ball-game... Angry)
But anyways...if you go the court route, odds are the officer won't show and you'll at the very least get the fine reduced.

That area is real nasty, I agree, almost as bad as the T-Curves coming north on 5 before you hit the city. And I agree with Chrisair it isn't a good idea to do 125 in Oregon, the roads are just plain shit..espcially 205 n 84.

Good Luck.

Tom
