The Lincoln-Kennedy Coincidence

Mon Dec 02, 2002 3:19 pm

I saw this a long time ago in my old AP US History teacher's class. I found a copy online, though, and thought it would be of interest to some of you...really eerie..I'm sure some of you have seen this before.

The Lincoln Kennedy Coincidence

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.
Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.
Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.
Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both were shot in the head.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners.
Both successors were named Johnson.
Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are comprised of fifteen letters

Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse.
Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.
Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the kicker,
A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was in Marilyn Monroe.

Here's another version that adds a couple of things missing from the above version:

Both Lincoln and Kennedy were concerned with civil rights.
Lincoln was elected President in 1860; Kennedy in 1960.
Both were slain on a Friday and in the presence of their wives.
Both were shot from behind and in the head.
Their successors, both named Johnson, were southern Democrats, and both were in the Senate.
Andrew Johnson was born in 1808 and Lyndon Johnson was born in 1908.
John Wilkes Booth was born in 1839 and Lee Harvey Oswald was born in 1939.
Boooth and Oswald were both southerners favoring unpopular ideas.
Both Presidents' wives lost children through death while in the White House.
Lincoln's secretary, whose name was Kennedy, advised him not to go to the theater.
Kennedy's secretary, whose name was Lincoln, advised him not to go to Dallas.
John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in a theater and ran to a warehouse.
Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and ran to a theater.
The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.
The names Andrew Johnson and Lyndon Johnson each contain thrteen letters.
The names John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald each contain fifteen letters.
Both assassins were killed before being brought to trial.
Both Johnsons were opposed for re-election by men whose names start with "G".
